Berkeley -- Tree-sitters who were fenced in Wednesday outside of Cal's Memorial Stadium are getting food and water today as they continue to protest the university's plans to cut the trees to make way for an athletic training center.

As fans arrived from Tennessee to watch their football team play Cal in an nationally televised game at the stadium Saturday evening, supporters of the protesters used ropes to shuttle fruit, vegetables and water to 10 people sitting in tree houses erected in oak and redwood trees.

Meanwhile, attorneys for the protesters will appear in a Hayward courtroom this afternoon to ask a judge to order the university to tear down the fence, claiming a previous court order banned any development at the site.

UC Berkeley wants to build a $125 million training facility next to the stadium, which straddles the Hayward Fault. The City of Berkeley, a tree-advocacy group and residents living near the stadium have filed suits intended to block the project,

They should get all the water they want - out of the end of a firehose.

“used ropes to shuttle fruit, vegetables and water...”

How dare they eat plants? They obviously have no regard for the rights of plants.

Those shuttling food and water to the protesters are simply trying to suck at the PC teat, to "be seen," not truly to help, and here's why. The protesters have to leave the tree to urinate and defecate anyway, and there is no reason they can't get their own food and water while on the same "trip down."

Who told you that? See the buckets? Guess what they're for?

They need one of these. Just grab the tree with it, shake it and the nuts fall out ready to be harvested.

It's not the plant, it's the size of the plant. Old-growth (read: big) trees are to be protected; small trees and plants, not so much.

Animal activists aren't much different. The furrier/cuter/more intelligent animals are important, but the others are less so.

It's still kinda hard to decipher the religion of environmentalism.

Let’s not forget they support the theory of evolution but deny one of it’s primary tenants, extinction. What’s that all about?

They don't deny extinction so much as fight against it. But the gist of your statement is quite true. Why not let the more fit, healthy trees thrive? Cut down the old, often diseased trees.

Dear Fellow Tennessee Football Fans -

The things in the trees are hippies. Don't shoot them. They are too stupid to taste good. Plus, they smell.

Enjoy your trip & GO VOLS!

Love,
Volunteer

PS - My best friend still has tickets for the game. If you still need some, give him a call.
