A north Texas woman says a pair of made-in-China flip-flops she bought from Wal-Mart severely injured her feet.
Taylor Vanover said she bought the flip-flops because they were cheap and that she developed a serious and painful rash after wearing them.
"It hurts, it's irritating, very irritating," Vanover said of the rashes on both her feet that she said follow the exact design of the flip-flops she bought in Gun Barrel City in June. "It itches it burns it tingles. It started out as just like a normal looking rash, and then it's progressed into that, where the actual rash is it's swollen."
She said the rash developed three weeks after buying the shoes and eventually went to an emergency room fro treatment.
Afterward, Vanover said, she saw a Web site by Kerry Stiles, a young woman in Florida who claims the same brand of Wal-Mart flip-flops gave her a similar rash.
Stiles told FOX 4 News nearly a dozen others have sent her pictures of their feet with rashes that looked like hers.
Stiles posted pictures of her rash, as well as a response she said she received from Wal-Mart.
She said Wal-Mart suggested she contact the Chinese manufacturer about her problem.
Vanover said she filled out the same complaint form in hopes of getting the flip-flops pulled from store shelves, "To get a hold of the manufacturer, to test them, to see what could possibly be in it before kids get a hold of it."
FOX 4 News contacted Wal-Mart's corporate offices about Vanover's claims and received this response:
"Product safety is a top priority at Wal-Mart and we are taking this report very seriously. Of several million of this product sold, we have had only a few similar claims."

Wal-Mart. Cheap and a there’s a very good chance you won’t be poisoned or burned by the products!
She looks recovered to me.
Buy Crocs, and make me money. Shoosh!!
Right. And I hurt my finger playing Chinese checkers. This is getting plain silly.
Can’t be sure without a hand on examination.
I’ll take it, I have some time this afternoon....
It does look bad.
I saw those pictures a while back. They really burned her feet. Pretty nasty burns!
Yeeow-them dogs is barking!
Something similar happened with my father in law, he got some new dentures and the plastic had not cured properly, that caused him to have chemical burns on his gums and inside his mouth.. nasty!

It's a conspiracy by the Chi-Coms to burn all of our feet so we can't fight back when the People's Army invades us (which, according to some on this forum, should be any day now).
We just need to remain vigilant by buying plastic flip-flops from our choice of the countless American flip-flop manufacturers.
You get what you pay for.
“emergency room fro treatment.”
What? She got a perm?
Ping...

I LOVE them!! I've got two pair of them and I gave 2 pair for Christmas last year. A nurse at my doctor's office liked mine so much she went out and bought a couple of pairs for herself. Whenever they get dirty you can put them in the sink and wash them. They are great for the lake too because they don't slip when your climbing in or out of the boat.
I've got a better idea. Have class action lawyers contact Walmart's legal department. This is unfortunately the only way unscrupulous US businesses are going to learn not to foist Chinese poison on the American public.
She should have observed the 300 pound load limit for the flip-flops.
