It may be just me but I see a compelling parallel with the situation in Iraq and the situation in New Orleans. Both have suffered though a disaster, one from nature and one man made. However, regardless of the cause both were equally devastating on the populace and the "government." In New Orleans case the people suffered several casualties but major property loss and social disruption. In Iraq's case they suffered considerably more casualties, come property loss and certainly social disruption. It's interesting to note the differences in the response of the two populaces. New Orleans appears to be waiting for outside help to rebuild and get on with their lives. The Iraqis, on the other hand, have braved gunfire, violence and other terrorist actions to simply vote and otherwise try to move their lives forward. Neither have lived up to expectations. But isn't it interesting how each is portrayed in the media. New Orleans citizens are victims not properly taken care of by the various governments involved despite BILLIONS spent by US Taxpayers. The incompetence of the state and local officials seem not to matter, the US Government is at fault for not doing more. Iraqi citizens are ungrateful recipients of US largess despite BILLIONS spent by US Taxpayers. The incompetence and learning curve of the central government and local officials is inexcusable and the US Government is at fault for trusting them and even thinking they could rise to the occasion. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Not really.....seems entirely predictable to me. You see, La. politics was always corrupt (see history)....and... Iraq was always a mess that we should have let blow up in the 1940’s. We have an opportunity now to facillitate the needed reformation of the Islamic faith!
