Earnest Lee Hargon Stabbed to Death

PARCHMAN, Miss. (AP) Earnest Lee Hargon, on death row since December 2005 for murdering a Vaughan couple and their young son, was stabbed to death Tuesday night by a fellow inmate at the state prison in Parchman.

Sunflower County Coroner Douglas Card says the 46-year-old Hargon was stabbed 30 times. The incident, which occurred at the prison's maximum security unit, is under investigation.

Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps says Hargon died at the prison hospital after being stabbed about 8:53 p.m.

Epps says Hargon was cleaning a tier at Unit 32 when inmate Jessie Wilson broke out of his cell and attacked Hargon with a homemade knife. Charges were pending against Wilson while the investigation continued.

In February 2004, Hargon used a gun and strangulation to kill his cousin, 27-year-old Michael Hargon, Michaels wife, 29-year-old Rebecca Hargon, and their son, 4-year-old son, James Patrick.

The 17-day search for the family captured the country's attention. Their bodies were found buried in a wooded area in Covington County on March 1st, 2004. The family had been missing since February 14th, 2004.

Earnest Lee Hargon is the third inmate killed since June in Unit 32, which has been under intense scrutiny since the American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit against the Mississippi Department of Corrections over conditions there.

Boris Harper was killed in June by a fellow inmate who fashioned a spear out of a mop handle. Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps says the killing was gang related.

Donald Reed was killed and two others were injured in July when 10 inmates with homemade knives attacked seven others in what Epps called gang violence.

I thought the practice was to keep death-row inmates separated from all other prisoners since you can’t really threaten them with a harsher sentence.

Guess not!

It was just an accident.
I was cleaning my fingernails with a knife and he ran into it.
Thirty times.

Here's a little dirge for the deceased scum :

Courtesy of Mr. Eric Clapton

I'm sitting over here on Parchman farm.
I'm sitting over here on Parchman farm.
I'm sitting over here on Parchman farm,
Ain't never done no man no harm.

Well, I'm putting that cotton in an eleven foot sack.
Well, I'm putting that cotton in an eleven foot sack.
Well, I'm putting that cotton in an eleven foot sack,
A twelve-gauge shotgun at my back

Well I'm sitting over here on Number Nine
Well I'm sitting over here on Number Nine
Well I'm sitting over here on Number Nine
And all I did is drink my wine.

I'm sitting over here on Parchman farm.
I'm sitting over here on Parchman farm.
I'm sitting over here on Parchman farm,
Ain't never done no man no harm.

Jessie Wilson (the stabber) should receive “front of the line” chow hall privileges for at least a week.
