BAGHDAD — Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has ordered a six-month suspension of activities by his Mahdi Army militia in order to reorganize the force, and it will no longer attack U.S. and coalition troops, aides said Wednesday.
The aide, Sheik Hazim al-Araji, said on Iraqi state television that the goal was to "rehabilitate" the organization, which has reportedly broken into factions, some of which the U.S. maintains are trained and supplied by Iran.
"We declare the freezing of the Mahdi Army without exception in order to rehabilitate it in a way that will safeguard its ideological image within a maximum period of six months starting from the day this statement is issued," al-Araji said, reading from a statement by al-Sadr.
In Najaf, al-Sadr's spokesman said the order also means the Mahdi Army will no longer launch attacks against U.S. and other coalition forces.
"It also includes suspending the taking up of arms against occupiers as well as others," Ahmed al-Shaibani told reporters.
Asked if Mahdi militiamen would defend themselves against provocations, he replied: "We will deal with it when it happens."....

My very best friend has a nephew who is a full boat Col in Iraq attached to the surge. he says the numbers of insurgents that are being reported as being killed, which has dramatically increased since the surge commenced, is really the tip of the iceberg. The actual numbers are far, FAR higher. The truth is they cannot replace the dead animals with trained replacements at even close to the rate necessary. He says what they are seeing now are a rag tag gang of poorly trained wackos whose personal mission seems to be to get themselves killed so they can go on to visit their pedophile pig fvucking allah.

The US just nailed another senior Mookie guy. They’ve been systematically dismantling his organization from the top down. At this point, Mookie is engaging in fights with his Shite rivals, the Badr gang who is now having open running gun battles.
He’s being left leadersless to run his mob. It’s probably a the point now that he is vulnerable re: assassination from the other Shite militia who is seeing his organization being demolished and will feel free to take a pot shot at him.
In doing so, they will be letting everyone know they aren’t fearful of retaliation.

Not really. He's declared several cease-fires over the past few months. Nothing ever happens, though, since he lost control of a good portion of his little army.
What people don’t know, because of ignorance, is that the Shia don’t attack us anyway. The Wahhabi Sunni and Al Queda attack us and suicide bomb us. They set the ieds. The Mahdi army fights them!! Not us!. We had a tiff with them at Falluja because we threatened their Mosque but our Shia government there ordered us to cease and let Sadr and his militia go.
We are so messed up in our thinking , we will not recognize that we are in the middle of a civil war between Shia and Sunni that goes back to the death of Ali Hussien 800 years ago. Until we understand the enemy is Sunni, we are not going to succeed.

I sure wish someone would tell Ahmadinejad and the Iranians that. It is their Shia extremism that Sadr is allying himself with, and they are the ones supplying the ieds, weapons, training, and quite possibly troops to attack from over the border, further confusing the situation.

I'm afraid that's only part of the problem. The radicals are in both groups, and they will sometimes put aside their own differences out of hatred for the "infidel". To try to peg it to Sunni or Shia alone is to miss a large part of the equation. The problem is hatred for the West that both sides want to export in the form of violence. It's the same reason we suddenly find ourselves agreeing with Joe Lieberman and Ed Koch. We have the same enemy.

I wonder if the MSM is finally getting a clue, Katie is going to Iraq, why? Could it be CBS wants to get on the side of truth and this will be their slick way of doing it?
If she has a good truthful report it would be a real scoop for CBS and could quite possibly go a long ways in redeeming them from damage done by rathergate.
