The Left Loses the Vietnam War (Great analysis)
Tia Daily ^ | August 29, 2007 | Robert Tracinski

Posted on 08/28/2007 11:57:49 PM PDT by Angel

America's defeat in Vietnam was seemingly a triumph for the anti-war left. Yet the years following that defeat--the era of American retreat and "national malaise"--proved so traumatic that the American people have never wanted to repeat them. Thus, what the anti-war radicals regarded as a vindication ended up discrediting the left on foreign policy for a generation. You could say that they won the political battle over the war--but they lost the peace.

This thesis is still somewhat new and controversial--but there is enough truth to it that it is beginning to stick. There is no doubt that the anti-war left pushed for American failure and accomplished it by persistent and vigorous legislation. And that is the crucial issue. If the architects of the Vietnam War in the Johnson administration can be criticized (as Moyar does) for not doing enough to win the war, the later anti-war left actively pursued American defeat and humiliation as their goal. They didn't merely want us to withdraw; they wanted us to lose, and they did whatever was necessary to make sure that happened.

So instead of being a story of the failure of imperialist, war-mongering Republicans, the Vietnam War was the story of two separate failures by Democrats. The Democrats who started the war held back from using the force necessary to win it--and the Democrats who ended the war deliberately knocked all of the remaining props out from under the South Vietnamese government to ensure the defeat of an American ally.

So the twin pillars of the contemporary Islamist threat--al-Qaeda and the Islamic Republic of Iran--owe their origins to the collapse of American power in the aftermath of the Vietnam War. What new disasters wait to be spawned in the aftermath of a defeat in Iraq?

Without the Internet the sheeple were programmed by the lib media. It was all they heard day in and day out. When that scumbag Cronkite lied through his teeth and actually claimed we were beaten in the Tet Offensive (when we clearly decimated the zipper heads) and followed by saying the war was lost, it in fact sealed the fate of our efforts and made the deaths of all those young heroes worthless.

The American people tried; but, the Democrat Congress was prepared to impeach President Nixon and he resigned on August 8, 1974 after this huge victory:

1972 Presidential Election:

Nixon
Party: REPUBLICAN
Electoral Votes: 520
Pop. Vote: 46,740,323 (60.3%)

McGOVERN
Party: DEMOCRATIC
Electoral Votes: 17
Pop. Vote: 28,901,598 (37.3%)

I wasn’t there but by your screen name and zipper head reference, assume you were. Thanks for serving our country and sending the bigger enemies of the day, Moscow and Bejjing a message. Every commie silence permantley at that time helped ensure I continue to live in a great society, even though the Rats then and now keep trying to make it a toilet.

Vietnam showed unequivicably that the Democratic party can never ever again be trusted with National Security, period.

After over a generation many had forgotten, or never seen their complete ineptitude and betrayals in these matters personally.

Their actions regarding Iraq just show an entire new generation why they cannot ever be trusted with the security of our nation.

The party as a whole is a party of cowards and traitors on these sorts of issues.

Click either image above.

"There were reeducation camps, and they weren't pretty and, you know, nobody likes that kind of outcome, but on the other hand I've met a lot of people today who were in those education camps, who are thriving in the Vietnam of today."
---- John Kerry, July 19, 2007, C-SPAN

Among his many, many flawed perceptions, John Kerry - known in the Vietnamese-American newspapers as "phan boi" (traitor) - must be completely oblivious of the many tens of thousands who died, were crippled by beatings, or became chronically ill in "reeducation camp."

See #29 above, and please ping as many others as you can. This is a sleeper with currently limited distribution (it's an independent film).

From what I can see it's had public viewings in three U.S cities (all sold out) and has appeared at many film festivals where it's been greatly acclaimed.

Take a look at the many positive and extremely moving comments by Vietnamese-Americans and Viet-Khieu on the several YouTube pages.

To paraphrase one comment, "the world will finally see what the Communists did to our country."

Sorry Ronnie, I guess I didn't make the connection! What was I thinking?

And I also completely missed the showing here in DC Metro (somewhere), where it was sold out weeks in advance.

In any case I'm glad it's gaining momentum, and hopefully it will reach a much much wider audience of average Americans.

Unfortunately, most Americans seem completely unaware that there were Vietnamese soldiers and Vietnamese fighters and Vietnamese families in Vietnam. To most, it's all about us. All about America. The film industry and the media are most guilty for that perception, though I think Mel Gibson made one small step in the right direction (right country, wrong side of the war).

Still it is important to convey the truth of what happened after April 1975. It didn't just end because CBS stopped covering it at 6:00PM. My friend from a large Delta town (and was trained for several cumulative years in the US) had three words for what happened next: "Horrible, just horrible." He's still there with his flawless English ("Gee, that's swell."), barred from any kind of work suited to his very impressive skills and background.

And that's also about as much as I've ever gotten from the half-dozen guys from my wife's family who did stints in the camps.

Well I hope they can get this into distribution. It would be a very good thing. And to paraphrase the paraphrase above, "maybe the world will now learn what the Communists Democrats did to Vietnam."

We’ve been very busy working non-stop for years here to get your Message out there about the horrid consequences suffered by many innocents at the hands of humorless Communist Vietnamese Bullies. Massive suffering brought on after a post-WATERGATE Democrat Congress, led by Sen. TED KENNEDY, cut off all our funding for the Free to fight for their own Freedom with in a then Free South Vietnam.

Take heart, the ..”JOURNEY from the FALL”.. Motion Picture DVD is out October 1st, 2007.

IIRC, the Democrats used to brag about supporting the other side until the killing fields from the Communist “victory” made the news. The Dems then acted like they never heard of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, etc.

They never had a thing to brag about, given that Ho Chi Minh was *co-founder* of the **FRENCH** Communist Party, where two decades later the Khmer Rouge heirarchy of Pol Pot, Kieu Samphan, Son Sen, and several others became good little student Commies in Paris, and then brought Bac Ho's murderous ideology back to Cambodia.

Later, when the fledgling Cambodian mass murderers and Commies needed aid and comfort and training, they turned once again to Ho Chi Minh, back in Vietnam and now *founder* and leader of the Communist Party Of *INDOCHINA* as well as leader of the Viet Minh.

So you see, the Khmer Rouge was actually the bastard child of Ho Chi Minh.
