Senator Craig Blames Idaho Paper for His Legal and Political Problems
Editor and Publisher ^ | August 28, 2007 | E&P Staff

NEW YORK In a statement to the press late this afternoon, Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho blamed the Idaho Statesman of Boise for his legal and political troubles stemming from his arrest in a sex-related matter at an airport men's room in Minnesota in June.

He denounced the longstanding probes by the Statesman -- he called it a "witch hunt" -- for inspiring him to plead guilty to the offense even though he said he was actually innocent. He said he had been "viciously harassed" by the newspaper. "I am not gay," he said twice. "I love my wife."

The Statesman had looked into allegations about Craig but did not run a lengthy report until today -- the day after his arrest in June became public. But Craig pointed to today's story, and suggested that the paper's probes and the "rumors" they produced had caused him to want to put the matter behind him -- so he pleaded guilty to the men's room charge and told no one about it. "In June, I overreacted and made a poor decision," he said.

Craig also said he would not step down as senator and still planned to serve his state in Washington, and walked away without answering questions from the media...."

Not to mention his actions. The paper doesn’t have anything to do with that, does it?

You nailed it, Jeff. How did he know about the Mpls airport can ? Good question; but someone reported there is another airport bathroom meeting place at Atlanta so maybe there is a chatter line where this stuff is communicated...

Craig also said he would not step down as senator and still planned to serve his state in Washington...

He should have resigned years ago. Regardless of his recent troubles, Craig has been unable or unwilling to represent the more than 80+ percent of Idaho's population who disagree with the neo-con RINO amnesty stance.

I’m not in a position to know the man’s heart, or what he was doing.

But nothing he did that day was lewd OR a disturbance. Most can be explained in purely innocent ways.

For example, He’s a big man, and has rode a lot of horses. So he has a “wide stance”, meaning he is bow-legged. When he sits, his feet want to go out.

He knows this, so he doesn’t like sitting next to people in stalls (there are a lot of other reasons for not sitting next to other people, I’ve sometimes waited for a stall rather than taking one next to an occupied stall).

So, he stands outside, waiting for the man in the adjacent stall to leave so he won’t be embarrassed. But after a few minutes, he gets curious why the man isn’t grunting, or finishing, or doing anything, so he glances in to see what the man is doing.

Eventually, upset that this man is just sitting in the bathroom doing nothing, he takes the stall next to him. He puts his bag by the door because he is required by law to keep it in site, and the door is the only place in the stall where it will fit. Plus you don’t want it anywhere near the toilet, the floor is a mess.

His feet stick out, but he tries to hold them in his stall. Doing so is somewhat painful, so he moves them to keep circulation going (tapping). After a while though, he can’t stand it, plus the guy next to him is tapping as well, which is kind of annoying because it means the guy is paying attention to him.

So he lets his foot out, and the next thing he knows the guy next to him TOUCHES his foot with his foot, and pulls it away. He gets pissed, and taps the guys foot back in anger. The guy does it again. Angrier, he reaches under the stall and WAVES at the man to get him to stop.

The guy then waves a BADGE under the stall, and Craig realises he’s been toe-tapping with a police officer, who tells him he’s under arrest for bad conduct. Well, I guess kicking the shoe of an officer is bad conduct, but Craig is upset because the officer seems to just be using his power to attack Craig for standing up for himself.

So he argues with him, which is resisting arrest. Eventually, he gets up to leave, and then he learns the guy thinks he was soliciting sex. Shocked, and realizing that the charge, if aired, will “confirm” rumors he’s worked on putting down for years, he seeks a quick plea agreement that won’t mention “sex” and will keep him off an open court docket.

Now, like I said, I have no idea what happened, but doesn’t this story at least meet the criteria for “possible”? And if so, doesn’t it explain everything the officer claims to have observed?

How then can we know for certain that Craig was soliciting the officer for sex?

How many of us had any idea that the things Craig was doing would be considered a crime, before we read this?

The Idaho pinglist can be called “craigslist” for the time being. Nice, original name, don’t you think?

This is a very tragic thing. I could feel sorry for him. But, on the other hand he voted for the immigration “reform” bill. So screw him as the Kos kids would say.

“Ted Kennedy is a murderer and John Kerry is a traitor..”

Exactly. But however we all feel about Craig, may I ask: when did it become illegal to be gay? Can I rub a chick’s foot at a bar? Can I come on to a woman at the mall? If Craig didn’t give this “cop” a Lewinski, what the hell is the “crime” here?

I smell a Democrat set up, as in “let’s come up with another Foley!”

One of the charges that was dropped was “invasion of privacy” as Craig is alleged to have been peeking into the cop’s stall through the door seam. Then, he took the next door stall. Also, one wouldn’t wave under the partition if a neighbor was invading your space. You say “what the hell are you doing over there?!” I would think. Oh, and the fact that vice was there means it is a well known hook up spot. Putting aside decades of allegations, too weird for this Freeper...

"I am not gay," he said twice.

But he just happens to know all the secret communication routines used by gays to hook up in toilets....

What a Goddam LIAR!

He's outa here..For lying, and for thinking he could take us for fools.

When I saw the picture of the cop who arrested Craig. I couldn’t help but wonder if he really had to act the part of a gay man. Is it possible that he volunteers for this duty. I don’t know much about Craig. But is there any chance he could have been set up. I would strongly recommend that all republican office holders have someone else walk into public restrooms with them to reduce any chance of false accusations. Everyone knows a lot of the Democrats such as Barney (likes the Frankfurter) Frank are gay. But as usual with the Democrats it’s anything goes. It all depends on what the meaning of is is. They have shown over and over that they have no morals. I beleive Bill Clinton would have sex or whatever he defines his actions as with anything breathing. Man, woman, or beast. Hildabeast, Monicabeast, or any fat peice of tail he can find. It’s pretty funny that not one Democrat cared when Clinton was having sexual relations with a girl just barely older than his own daughter.

Hmmmmm. You're on to something here, but I don't think posting several pics of Larry would be a good idea to make the official ping look all pretty.

Thanks for the ping. I’m afraid to post on these threads, given the recent abuse of my screen name - which I am seriously thinking of changing. When I signed up for FR, I was thinking of the old B52’s song - I was unaware of the movie and other connotations - damn.

what the hell is the “crime” here?

He pleaded guilty to something, maybe public indecency? I don't know what the actual charge was but he wants to change his mind about that plea now and our system doesn't work that way.

I don't care or even want to know what queers do to each other but they should keep it out of public rest rooms.

I have grand children who visit me frequently and there's a public park directly across the street from me, a lot of kids play there and use the public rest room there. My grand kids know to come to my house and use the bath room when they need to but I'd hate to think there might be homos in that rest room doing who knows what to each other.

I live in a small town and don't think that is happening in my park though. Yes, I said my park, it doesn't belong to the queers to practice their perversion in.
