U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people

The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.
U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.
About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said.
"There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people," it said.
India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people.
Germany, France, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals.
On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States, with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38.

I wasn't looking for a carbine, but this one caught my eye when I noticed it had the original flip-up rear sight, and no bayonet adapter on it. Then I saw the "IBM" marking. It even had the correct-but-ugly stamped-and-brazed trigger housing, and laminated beech stock.
IBM was the only manufacturer that preserved all the paperwork from the carbine program, so it's only through those documents that we know of the identity of all the small companies that made the smaller components that were used by all manufacturers of the carbine. The idea was the prime contractor had to make the barrel, bolt, and receiver, and everything else had to come from small shops, and spread around all the prime contractors, to insure that all the parts would work together. Except for the smallest pins and springs, every part had initials on it that identified the manufacturer.
The program worked so well, that within a year the government had carbines coming out its ears, and canceled all contracts except for Winchester and Inland.

The “61 per 100 people” refers to Yemen.
By my computation, Finland had 3,516,667 people in 1940 (and that’s after licking both the Russian and the German armies in that area).
Sounds like the U.S. is dangerously underarmed.

You are correct, my mistake. And thank you, now I am happier. I was worried that we only had 61 guns per citizen. The higher number is much more agreeable to my disposition. I wish it were about 50% higher though, but I’ll take it as it is, for now.
I suspect they knew very well that the core group beating them to death were the local Skolt, Inari and other Eastern Sa'ami who'd contributed something like 5,000 soldiers to the Finnish army.
When you fight a war in the winter in the far North it's wise to have people around you who can tolerate the cold.
Remember the guy who was diving into the Arctic and swimming a quarter mile a few weeks back? He thinks he trained himself to withstand the cold. Many others know you don't "train" for that ~ you just do it 'cause you can.

I’m from that stock. I was raised to keep mum about money, guns, and sex. Even the NRA was a taboo subject in my family because only a fool would put his name on a list as being a gun owner. Guns were bought only second hand after 1969, or whenever the stupid gun law came into effect where all gun sales were recorded.

Dont’ worry. I can neither confirm nor deny, but strongly “suspect” that there are enough with an overage of weapons and ammo to supply those responsible for this ratio being less than 1:1. (wink, wink...nudge, nudge :-)
