U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people

By Laura MacInnis 28 minutes ago

The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.

U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.

About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said.

"There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people," it said.

India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people.

Germany, France, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals.

On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States, with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38.

Every able-bodied (sane), person should know how to load, aim, and shoot.

Not to mention that they take cars and do drive by shootings. How do you think they get Swiss cheese, it’s from all the drive by shootings that ventilate the cheese in the houses.

How do they come to this number, sales? I would think the number is higher due to some people building their own.

Ironical that Finland and Switzerland are second and third... two of the most weepy leftist states in the world.

Not enough in my opinion! I am celebrating Missouri’s Law change in not having to get the Sheriff’s permission to buy a handgun by buying a pistol. Looking for a Missouri Highway Patrol S&W if anyone has one......

As long as we are confessing...

I confess to buying a good scope when it was on sale, then buying a good rifle to go under it.

I also confess to buying oddball, hard-to-find magazines, then buying the weapons that fit them. I had a good supply of FN P90 and FiveseveN mags (and pouches, and ammo) before I had a weapon to use them in. That has since been corrected.

Wifey, does this .45 in my Milt Sparks `Summer Special’ make me look fat? Honestly.
I can go with the 9 in shoulder carry . . .

Now I know why I have those FN-FAL mags!

I also confess to being a sucker to threever and fiver deals from those mail order houses. You know, three rifles for this, five for that. ;)

The BBT shows up and drops off the boxes and it's like Christmas with a cosmoline substitute for pine scent!

This being Michigan, it can only be a PS90, and only if it's registered as a handgun. It's a rifle under federal law, but state law was never updated to match, so it's a "handgun" in Michigan. You should have seen the look on the cop's face when I brought it in for the mandatory "safety check" (registration).

Since I can't SBR it or put on a can, I bought a dummy suppressor so it wouldn't get an inferiority complex.

It's a remarkably agile and accurate little carbine, and with the 1.5x ACOG, I can play it like a Stradivarius out to 100 yards. It puts a big smile on the face of anyone who tries it.

I'd like to see the statistic that listed how many guns there were per FReeper household. Now that'd be interesting.

You seem to be an underachiever. I feel the correct ratio for the US should be in the range of 150-200 guns per 100 people.
