Counting illegals in 2010 census important, but tricky (MA counts illegals for Congressional seats)

The statewide push to hang onto the Bay State's 10 congressional seats after the 2010 census will be tested in the efforts to count illegal immigrants, officials said yesterday.

With federal money distributed based on a number of factors, including the population, it is especially important that all residents - regardless of their immigration status - are included in the census, they said.

In many countries, a census often isn't done at all or doesn't carry the same weight as it does in the United States. According to Kathleen Ludgate, regional director for the United States Census Bureau's Boston office, it is essential to educate illegal immigrants on the importance of returning census forms.

Residents should return the forms but not visitors. Do tourists get to submit a census form if they frequent Florida? Maine? California???

Illegal immigrants hold no residency in the United States. Fox wanted them to be able to continue to vote in Mexico. Ergo they hold no political sway in America and should not be used as justification to steal Congressional seats from legal residents.

MA’s got legal citizens fleeing the state. If they don’t get some more warm bodies, they stand to lose a House seat or two. Hence the desire to count illegals.

This should be easy in California. We have about 30 million people.......20 million are illegals. No need to take a census.

important that all residents

Merriam Webster defines a resident as one who resides. Reside is defined as occupying a place as one's LEGAL dwelling.

Illegals cannot RESIDE therefore are NOT RESIDENTS and should not be counted!

I hope Utah does it right this time and counts EVERYBODY to include those on a ‘mission’ elsewhere. They screwed themselves last time.

Massachusetts liberals want to inflate their state's declining population by counting law-breaking illegals. So much for a respect for American values.

Illegals should be counted, but their numbers should not be used as a basis for reapportionment and redistricting. The only population that should count for those purposes is the number of US citizens.

How can long term undocumented TOURISTS without legal residency be counted in a census?

On any given day, the five boroughs in NYC have enough tourists on visas to gain NY State another seat in the House.

TO suggest NY State should get another seat due to their level of tourism is asinine and easily laughed off. Suggesting Mass should get a seat for illegal tourists is even more asinine.

The states that will lose, or not gain, a seat in the House due to this blatant undermining of Constitutional law should and (hopefully) will sue to stop this implementation.

China could send 20 million immigrants to Oregon and California and set the Communist regime up with seats in our House of Representatives under this precedent.

The Brahmins of Boston need to be struck, and struck down hard, for attempting this blatant undermining of the Republic.

This is a Civil Rights issue for legal residents.

Legal residents of the state that would not gain a seat in the House CAN NOT be made to be enumerated as 434/435th of a resident. Politicians, media and the elected government of the states on the precipice of gaining another House seat must drive home this point repeatedly, and bring Federal Civil Rights charges up against the gov of Mass and the Fed Gov’s census bureau to protect the rights of their legal residents.

Illegal aliens should not be counted - they should not even be in this country. If encountered, they should be reported and deported.

To go one step further, if Disney and the major resorts in central Florida placed census forms in every hotel room, the Orlando metro area would gain another Rep.

If the financial and political interests in Mass are allowed to manipulate the enumeration of the census using the illegal aliens that provide financial benefits to the state’s wealthy, to further help the financial interests of the state’s wealthy, why shouldn’t Disney and the major resorts be able to do the same to provide a Rep to further their financial interests in the House?

Hell, IBM could make Armonk, NY a metropolis with a seat if they declare all of their 130,000 worldwide employees use the Armonk HQ as there US residence.

States that don’t count them need to take MA to federal court over this. They’re trying to get more than their fair share of representation in Congress, to the detriment of the other States. IMHO.
