I am sorry, did she say something? I was distracted.

As “mesmerizing” as her performance was, a highlight for me was, as the camera pulled back near the end, the look on the face of the guy holding the mike.

"The 18-year-old beauty contestant who mesmerized the nation with her verbal "brilliance" at the Miss Teen USA pageant over the weekend actually entered beauty pageants to improve her personal communication skills...""I was never much of a pageant girl," Lauren Caitlin Upton said in an interview published just hours before Friday's event. "When I first started pageants, I wanted to build up my communication skills for interviews for college and for jobs. I was determined to prove I was able to accomplish anything I put my mind to."

I heard the replay of her reply (not the video, which would have, admittedly, distracted me) and I was impressed....
This young lady actually came thiiiiissss close to actually having a *thought*....
She kinda sidled up on it a couple of times, and I was really rootin’ for her — but in the end it escaped her....
Better luck next time, kid....

... actually entered beauty pageants to improve her personal communication skills, ...No, she didn't. She did it to get on tv, get her picture in the paper and possibly to land a job at Hooter's.

Bless her heart.
Her answer was awful, but she's young. She'll become stronger and smarter (Hopefully...) because of it.
Neal Boortz skewered her yesterday.

I can almost sympathize. At my 2nd job after college I had to give a speech on a new program being implemented. I was new at the job and only expected a handful of people. Imagine my surprise when a few hundred came. I totally froze. Couldn’t talk. I mumbled a few words and gave the microphone back to my boss. It took years to live that one down.

...sounds like almost every person here thinks they were a friggin’ genius at 18.
She’s 18 people....a few short years past puberty and barely out of the gate. She might not be splitting atoms for a living but at least give her credit for acknowledging her weak points and attacking them head on. That’s more than can be said for most 18 year old kids today. Cut her a bit of slack.

She looks smart to me. I watched the video and I think she got tongue twisted trying to remember a canned answer, and she was probably a bit nervous. The poor girl needs to be consoled.
