US Senator Larry Craig resigned tonight as Senate co-chairman for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, within hours after news broke of Craig's guilty plea to disorderly conduct after an incident in a men's bathroom.

"Senator Craig has stepped down from his role with the campaign. He did not want to be a distraction and we accept his decision," Romney's campaign said in a statement.

Romney’s campaign may not have known of the arrest. Who knows?

But, no, I’m not quite so naive as to believe they were unaware of the rumors circulating Craig.

BTW, That goes for all Republicans/Democrats in Washington except *maybe* freshmen. I don’t believe for one minute in that gossip cellar they are unaware of the personal lives of those they interact with even if they don’t know all details. They don’t share their knowledge with the voting public usually, but these things are known.

Our queers are queerer than their queers.

Queer, isn’t it?

It is past time for Craig to leave. Warner and Stevens too. The flatulent Voinovich would be no loss. Smith of Oregon is an ignoramus. There is no escaping the fact that the Republican hacks are as unsympathetic as their Democrat colleagues. Either there needs to be a new Republican party, or a new party. I would prefer the latter.

I didn’t realize there was such a thing as a gay mormon, I always thought those were incompatible lifestyles.

Craig pulled out of Romney’s campaign.

He could be joining the Giuliani team...

He’s perfect for the Giuliani campaign.

And he would be a better campaigner for Giuliani if he resigned right now so he could spend full time in getting votes from the Log Cabin Republicans.

I saw that Craig lists his religion as Methodist.

Let's just say that Brian Fellows had some feminine characteristics on the show. Brian Fellows statement "That's Crazy" is referring to the post that was made in this political forum.

Craig pulled out of Romney’s campaign.

just search Google under gay mormon. You’ll find plenty...
though this problem isn’t restricted to mormons.

>>>Sen. Craig is a Mormon. Perhaps that is one reason he wasn’t vetted closely.

Sen. Craig is a Methodist. But I won't hold it against other Methodists as you are trying to do with the "Mormon issue" here.

I have to say that I don’t mind him being outed. Because he is clearly cheating on his wife. But I have a hard time with the police here. What was the crime? Why are the police there. I do not believe that he offered to pay the officer. So he hit on him. If a guy in the airport bar hit on a girl it would be legal. Where is the crime?

>>I didn’t realize there was such a thing as a gay mormon, I always thought those were incompatible lifestyles.

The LDS church excommunicates openly practicing gays. Those who claim to be "gay mormons" are usaully excommunicated mormons or anonymously on the internet. The Law of Chastity covers sexual immorality whether heterosexual or homosexual. Basically any sex outside of marraige is wrong. So, the LDS also excommunicates for other out of wedlock sexual relationships like adultery. Fornication (unmarried sex) doesn't always result in an excommunication but will result in disciplinary action. Of course if someone is hiding their adultery or homosexuality the church can't really do much about it unless they know about it.
