I've been wondering if I should get my CDL. I'm 21, and not fully blind or deaf, and I live in CT. I also have no driving record, either positive or negative, 'cuz I don't own a car. I got the idea when I was going home Friday night, as I saw a lot of trucks on the road.
Can anybody help a young guy out?
Go for it! Just don’t spend more than 25% of your dispensable income on a car.
Do you have a driver’s license? Go for it if this is what you want to do.
To get a CDL you have to be fully blind and deaf. No exceptions.
If you don’t drive, you can get an ID card (which usually looks similar) to a Driver’s License card.

Just wondering are you using a pocket translator or did you mean to use another word other than “industry.”?
Still curious, are you thinking of joining the trucking industry?
He’s asking about a Commercial Drivers License.
Ha ha, very funny guys.
I’m seriously considering it, as my option to join the military is fading. I’m not going to get hearing back, it’s only going to go away. So I need to think about things I can do. I prefer a trade over going to college, so trucking is my first choice.
To those who asked if I have a driver’s license, yes I do.
Thank you Jenny.
The big question I have is do you have access to a truck? A friend of mine just got his CDL. He does have the advantage of access to big trucks. His father owns a sanitation business. If you’d like to get in touch with him let me know through private mail. A CDL license will give you access to a lot of opportunities. There are more opportunities than just long distance trucking, any type of big truck, cement, garbage, dump trucks require a CDL.

How will you use a CB radio if you can’t hear?
Truck driving is not a good career unless you own your own rig. Also you will see increased competition once they open the roads to Mexican drivers. Go to college.
Well-here’s what a friend told me about owning a handgun-I think the logic applies here-”Better to have one and not need it than to need it and not have it”. Having it will probably help you when it comes to a job search.
you will not get a CDL with less than 80% normal hearing, unaided.
OPINION:
Ok. Well you may want to go down to your local DMV and also contact a trucking school to inquire if your hearing or lack of would hinder you from obtaining a commerical license for the occupation of truck driver.
I can hear, I just don’t have full hearing in my right ear.
