For hours today, the second-floor conference room in Washington's Capitol Hilton could have been a meeting of lawyers for insurance companies with individuals reporting on their plans and activities state by state. But then at 11:20 came what everyone had been waiting for:
It was Florida's turn to report to the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the Democratic National Committee. And as The Times' Bob Drogin fully reports here on this website and in Sunday's print editions, the committee lowered the boom on the defiant state party that violated rules by moving its primary election ahead of Feb. 5.
As Drogin reports, despite Florida's plea for mercy and understanding, the committee voted unanimously to strip the state of all of its delegates to the national convention in Denver next August if it doesn't change its primary election date from Jan. 29 within 30 days. This threatens all kinds of fractious future floor fights on television at a national convention designed to weld party unity behind its new Democratic nominee for the last two-month push to the Nov. 4 election date next year.

Do Democratic Politicians Have ANY Survival Instincts?
**************************EXCERPTS**********************
CNN tells us that Sen. Bill Nelson and other Florida Democratic lawmakers are threatening to sue the DNC.
Democrats can’t stand prosperity
Nelson said Friday Florida Dems are prepared to pursue legal action against the DNC.
**************************EXCERPT************************
At the meeting, held in a downtown Washington, D.C., hotel, Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman argued that it was Florida Republicans who muscled the legislation through the state legislature to change the primary date. Thurmans argument was not enough to persuade members of the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee.
Florida Democrats now have 30 days to submit an alternative plan to the DNC.
.. and they say the Ca GOP is in a state of hurt..
Florida demRats , we feeel your pain..
Dr. Dean is turning into Dr K. and whacking his own party.
Priceless. :-)
I thought you might like to hear about this....good move by the Florida pubbies?
Looks like the dems will implode all by their lonesome, Culture of Corruption or Not. That Dean is a genius.. He makes Rove look like a rank amateur. lol
LOL!
It’s nice to see overt infighting in the other party for a change.
Thanks for the post and links, Ernest.
Oh, I love this. Thank you God for letting the devil turn aginst the devil. C’mon Dems; mix it up. Yeah!! Pull some hair, file some lawsuits, make those Florida Dems mad and put them in the GOP column in ‘08. YEAH!!!

DEAN LOWERS THE BOOM: Dems Battle Over Florida Primary...
STATE SCREAMS FOUL...
One Year to Convention
I love it too....see #11 and the links....
...All that Senator Nelson has to do is point out that he will switch parties over to the GOP unless Florida is fairly treated.
Dems will cave within moments. 1 Senator switching parties right now shifts power from Dem to GOP. Committee Chairs are instantly dethroned nationwide.
Now that is a nice thought to sleep on....getting real interesting....
Could this be a Dem ploy to get all those disenfranchised Dems in Florida all stirred up? They figure they did not get counted last time, and it won’t happen again! Not in 2008! This should get them out to vote at least 2 or 3 times on election nite!
Gatekeeeper
Such a charming bunch.
