Rudy Giuliani Candidacy Gaining Traction
Newsmax ^ | August 24, 2007 | Barry Farber

Early in the pre-campaign for the 2008 White House, New York ex-Mayor Giuliani was regarded by those who hate him as one of those gaudy soap bubbles that survives just long enough for you to yell to your brother to hurry on into the bathroom and take a look; but you're confident it will pop and leave a little moist remembrance on the white tile floor without you needing to blow it or poke it.

That was many months ago, and far from popping, the Giuliani candidacy is gaining, sinking mud-cleats into solid political support and grabbing traction. Why? I think I know. And if I'm right it will be the first time I've really learned from history. Never too late.

I'm a conservative and I really don't give a crap what becomes of your precious Republican party once it ceases to be the vehicle that conservatives use to move their agenda. I don't owe ANY party my vote, and I don't EVER vote for Liberals regardless of the letter after their name.

I am not talking about the Republican Party here, I am talking about the Nation. If you seriously believe that Giulliani is the same as Clinton then you have more problems then I can imagine.

You go ahead and ball up your little fists and whine that if you can't have YOUR candidate then the hell with America. Just remember who to point the finger at when school buses, schools, hospitals and shopping centers start blowing up because the animals believe a Democratic WH won't fight. No question in my mind that people like you aren't Rep or even conservatives. Instead you all are liberals intent on bringing down America by espousing your trash under the guise of being conservative. There is simply no other answer to explain the complete idiocy of the position of you and others like you who would allow America to fall rather then accept anything other then 100% of what you want.

ET,
Here’s a good response/test for those who claim there’s no diff between Rudy and Hillary. Ask them: Is there a difference between Hillary and Joe Lieberman? Would you really not rather have Lieberman than Clinton?

If they’re an honest conservative, they’ll say no. And, of course, we know that Rudy is to the right of Lieberman.

Of course you are right but why even bother? People who claim Giulliani is no different then Clinton are a perfect example of what constitutes abject stupidity covered in a thick layer of uninformed and all wrapped up in extremely childish emotion.

They are fools and I have no patience with them.

Funny how two conservatives, you and I, can be poles apart.

I agree.

What's frightening is that the party can't field a candidate who can bring people together. The best argument for Fred Thompson seems to be that he is the candidate that the fewest Republicans and conservatives would refuse to support in the general election.

Mystic Vision:

The Democrats run Lieberman/Obama. IMHO, Obama is their perfect VP, it's just that he doesn't want to run with Hillary. What man would?

But I don't see any Republican with the nerve to tackle Hillary head-on, the way Barak Hussein and his old lady are doing.

The RNC hacks in D.C. better get a clue...

From thine lips to the Big Guy's Ear! However, based on bitter recent experience, I think you've got a better shot at the speedy arrival of Fusion Power, Flying Pigs, Ice Water in Hell, or seeing Elvis at your local Wal-Mart.

As Mayor, he achieved conservative results in the most unlikely of places.

Rudy certainly has personality.

But I keep reading (and hearing on talk shows) that Guliani cut taxes 23 times in NYC.

Can anyone provide a specific list of taxes he cut, and by how much.

...quite quite unlike the weak, frail, indecisive and comfort-seeking FRed Thompson.

I must admit that I initially liked Fred Thompson (still do personally), but I see him now as an indecisive "comfort zone" type of personality, as you say, and I have done a total about face on whether he would make a good candidate, much less US President.

In today's 24-hour news-compressed cycle, it takes someone with drive and desire.

Regardless of what Thompson does or does not do on Labor Day, I have come to believe that Romney, Huckabee, or (yikes) even Guliani would be more effective against the lunatic Democrats in '08.

Prostate cancer is curable if detected early.

Is lymphoma? Not according to Freds doctors, it's treatable but not curable. Just saying........

His traction will last until Fred officially gets in the race. At that point, there will be a long slow slide into oblivian.

We'll see, I borrowed my crystal ball out last week, so I don't know if your right or wrong, but I do think that the story's of Rudy's demise have been greatly overstated. Maybe not on this board, but in big old world of politics.

Rudy may falter, but he may also gallop of to the finish line, only time will tell.

If only Fred knew how to plan ahead and had the energy to run a vigorous campaign. I think his campaign is a pipedream that is going to end in a puff of smoke, proving he was a great Senator and is a great human being who just doesn't have the stamina and foresight and organizational skills needed in a President.

This is one of the most insightful comments I have read on Free Republic in a long time.

A Leibermann / Obama ticket would be a Republican nightmare, much harder to beat than anything Hillary and her Den of Moonbats could be.

As to any Republican taking on Hillary, Karl Rove has been assigned that task. And when it is time, the candidates will start hitting her altogether, if she ever starts making pronouncements worthy of respponse. So far Hillary has just been a horrible boor, and no one is terribly interested in what she has to say.

Or take Rudy at his word that he will appoint strict contructionists to the bench.

No thanks. I prefer to take my vote 3rd party if Rudy is the nominee.

(Hands over ears) "La-la-la-la, I don't care if Hillary's elected, la-la-la-la..."

If you are one of them then be prepared to take full responsibility for what befalls America because of your selfish attitude.

No, it is the GOP establishment who better be prepared to take responsibility for a Clinton presidency, part 2.

You are asking conservatives to throw all their beliefs down the drain in exchange for a false sense of security under Rudy.

Rudy is a boring old white male too - that sometimes dresses as a woman.

You know, at the Baptist church I attended as a teenager, occasionally the deacons would put on skits for the youth group...and sometimes, as a gag, one of them would dress as a woman for laughs.

I also remember Milton Berle dressing as a woman at the opening of his extremely popular show in the 50s. He had a reputation as one of the most manly of men in all of Hollywood and he was straight as an arrow.

When I read the "crossdressing" posts about Rudy, I come to the conclusion that the person posting them isn't to be taken seriously. These posts also present the poster making them as humorless, lacking in sophistication to an alarming degree and dumber than a post.

It's REAL simple, but I will try to stick with one syllable words so you can get the message. IF Giuliani is the Republican nominee, there will be a conservative 3rd party nominee and it makes NO DIFFERENCE who the person is. He will siphon off enough votes to elect the Democrat, even Hillary with her 50% negatives.

The fate of the nation depends on how many moron Republicans are willing to ignore the facts and vote in the primaries for Giuliani. The liberal Republicans need YOUR help to make certain the Democrat wins.

None of you little Rudy twits are going to convince me, or scare me, or any other conservative, that I should vote AGAINST my own best interests and those of my country. Sorry, but you can NEVER win that argument, and you're a long, long way from smart enough to even bother trying.

That’s Fred’s ONLY claim to fame. It does not mean he would win the election by any means, but he would have the LEAST fractured base with or without enthusiastic support. The enthusiasm remains to be determined depending on the kind of campaign he runs, but if he gets the nomination, he has far and away the best chance of winning in the fall.

Those aren’t ‘my’ choices. I just think those are the most viable candidates who will be standing in the end. They have self selected themselves. My preferred candidates decided not to run.

These self selected candidates made themselves the most viable candidates by their actions and achievements.

I would be happy if Fred Thompson proved me wrong and turned into a viable candidate.

I don’t think the others that have thrown their hats in the ring will resonate with the average voter or they are underfunded and underorganized and won’t get the average voter time enough to get to know them well enough.

This position they are vying for isn’t President of the Student Union or the Young Conservatives. It’s for President of the United States of America, the most powerful position in the world. They have to be able to scrap with and win over the most influential people in this country and the world who don’t want them to have that position.

Yes, we know that about a lot of you here.

What you don't know is that you will need us again eventually, after you have chopped us to pieces and trashed us, as there is no other viable vehicle for getting a decent and able person in the White House and decent people in the Senate.

You know when you borrow somebody's car, nice people return it with the gas tank full.
