Fred Thompson's decision to announce his presidential candidacy with a video was suggested by Newt Gingrich, who is considered a possible contender himself.
Former House Speaker Gingrich has indicated he will run only if Thompson does not or his late-starting campaign crashes and burns. Actor-politician Thompson plans to follow the model of Democrat Hillary Clinton by launching his campaign with a video, followed by a fly-around to several cities.
Gingrich has expressed contempt for becoming one of many announced Republican candidates at crowded debates. Thompson has decided to be one of many at the Sept. 27 debate at Baltimore's Morgan State University.

A man who commits serial adultery, divorces two wives after they became seriously ill,(The first one also wasn’t good-looking enough to be a political wife.)and then forces his family to go to their church for money for food is NOT a good man.
So what’s ok in Ronald Reagan isn’t ok in Fred Thompson?
He was divorced after many years of pain over his daughter’s problems. Many marriages can’t survive that kind of stress. There was no hint of adultery. He took care of his ex-wife, who says she will campaign for him. He dated, but didn’t remarry until after his first wife did.
Oh, and Reagan absolutely was known as a “playboy”. He dated a lot. And there is nothing wrong with that for a single man.

You’re both wrong.

Obama’s political resume:
-Two years in the U.S. Senate
-Seven years in the Illinois Senate
-One loss in a primary election for the U.S. House
-One stirring keynote address at a DNC Convention
Fred’s Senate service was far from “inconclusive.” Read and learn:
· As Chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, Thompson enacted a law that required federal agencies to calculate and report the cost of regulations on taxpayers and businesses.
· Press reports stated: He put heat on federal agencies by holding hearings on mismanagement and by asking them to tote up the improper payments they made each year. That added up to about $20 billion in taxpayer dollars. His efforts saved taxpayers more than $2 billion in 2005-06 alone at the Department of Health and Human Services.
· He published a two volume report, Government on the Brink, detailing the waste, fraud, and abuse of federal agencies as well as the management challenges facing the incoming Bush Administration. Paul Light, a New York University professor and leading expert on government, said, I consider him to be one of the most dedicated overseers of the executive branch of the last 25 years.
· Twenty-five years after hed gained national prominence as hard-charging counsel on the Watergate committee, Thompson again stepped into the investigation spotlight. In 1997, as chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, he opened an investigation into attempts by the Chinese government to influence America policies and elections through, among other means, financing election campaigns. The investigation identified at least six Democrat donors and fundraisers, with ties to the Clinton Administration, who had laundered or aided in the laundering and distribution of foreign money into Democrat political party coffers. The investigation also exposed two Democrat Party donors with a long-term relationship with a Chinese intelligence agency, according to the Senate committees report.
· In his eight years, Thompson, who served on the Finance Committee, supported and worked to enact three major tax-cut bills, reducing the federal tax burden on all of us.
· As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Thompson focused on the threat of nuclear proliferation and technology transfers that could damage American industrial and national security.
· While a vocal supporter of free trade, Thompson also fought to link free trade to our national security interests. For example, when voting to grant full-trading status to China, Senator Thompson fought unsuccessfully to include an amendment in the bill that would have required the president to impose sanctions against China if it violated nuclear-nonproliferation agreements. Thompson also served on the Intelligence Committee at a time when it examined the failings in intelligence and analysis leading into the September 11th terrorist attacks, as well as the reforms needed to better prepare for future threats.

When H 400 passed the House of Representatives on a voice vote, with no member demanding a recorded vote, we knew we were in trouble. S 507 was set to be reported out of the Senate Judiciary Committee by unanimous consent the following week. We needed one member of the United States Senate with the courage to stand before the Committee and object to the bill.
We decided to approach Senator Fred Thompson, and when S 507 came up in committee, he objected on the basis of national security. He had the courage to defy the President and Vice President, the Japanese government, the Chinese government, the Lippo Group of Indonesia, and eighty or ninety of Americas largest multinational corporations. America dodged a bullet in 1997, and Fred Thompson was the man who made it happen.

On the Republican side, Fred Thompsons record on spending puts the rest of the field to shame, and is even more conservative than that of Newt Gingrich. Perhaps Thompsons supposed lack of accomplishments in the Senate are the result of a legislator who erred on the side of ensuring that government didnt grow, didnt spend more, didnt meddle more in peoples lives, and generally left Americans alone. In an age of two big-governnment parties, it isnt surprising that such a candidate is garnering interest.

I know he divorced one wife and she was ill which is very bad but where did you hear of another time that that had happened? I find it hard to believe that he did not support his family with all of his income and forced them to go to church for food. You can’t believe everything you read about someone just because they really screwed up in their lives. Isn’t that a bit of overkill?

That sentence reveals a lot about your character. You know dang well that Fred and his first wife parted amicably, and that he didn’t even meet his present wife until years later.
It’s always the holier than thou types who reveal the deficiences in their own characters. Congratulations!
Oh, the drama. Go audition for a soap opera.
You’re a pathetic example of a FReeper.
Yeah, I know. From the guy who goes from promoting Phyllis Schafly and anti-globalism and sovereignty to a guy supporting a HoBaker protege. ROFL
Phyllis Schafly is a better conservative then you’ll ever be and Howard Baker did a good job for Reagan as his Chief of Staff in the aftermath of the Iran-Contra witch hunt.
Stop already. You’re not only embarrassing yourself, you’re embarrassing another good conservative, Duncan Hunter. With your lame rhetoric that shows what a sore loser you really are.
That wasn’t a swipe at Schlafly.
It was a testament to your starry eyed celeb worship at the expense of your reason.
Don’t worry about me embarrassing Hunter. He’ll be back here for a couple more rounds. You can complain to him then, like some of the freeperettes did. Amusing. LOL
>>>>>Dont worry about me embarrassing Hunter. Hell be back here for a couple more rounds. You can complain to him then...
I don't have a problem with Hunter. He's a good cosnervative and deserves better from his suppoters. My problem is with you trashing FredT every opportunity you get, with mindless and baseless charges.
How do you know what I know, pissant.
...In this modern, progressive era, serial adultery and multiple divorces are virtues in a candidate. FRed and Newt qualify on that score....
Just fyi, it seems the latest Romney lying points--er--talking points are that Fred is somehow guilty of "serial adultery and multiple divorces."
No surprise there. They’re desperate. All of their money and hard work has gone into getting them a slight bump in the meaningless month of August, while Fred is preparing to enter and make all of them irrelevant. Sucks to be them.
Thank you so much! Thompson was a stand-out in the senate on the federalism issue, so his commitment to it is solid. The very best of luck to both Thompson and Romney!
Post the proof, or you're a liar, JCEccles.

You said: Beyond that he apparently cuts a fine figure as a tv star which seems to be enough for a lot of people but not for me !!!
I say: Me neither!!!
Far be it from me to enter your and JC's dueling spin chambers, but an honest reading of the post in question will show that to be a cut on Newt, as a purported "advisor", not Fred.
Now, pardon the interruption, and carry on with your mutual half-truth fests.
