CBS) HAWTHORNE, Calif. Two children menaced by pit bulls in Hawthorne were safe Friday, but a woman running from the dogs broke her leg and a squad car being driven to the scene collided with another vehicle, injuring an officer and a motorist, police said.
A report that two pit bulls were menacing a 16-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother in the 2900 block of 141st Place at El Segundo Boulevard and Prairie Avenue was received by Hawthorne police about 8 a.m., Hawthorne police Lt. Michael Ishii said.
An animal-control officer distracted the dogs with a chemical spray, and the children ran to safety, Ishii said.
No one was bitten, but a woman who ran from the dogs fell and broke her leg, and she was taken to a hospital, Ishii said.
Meanwhile, an officer driving to the scene crashed into another vehicle at El Segundo Boulevard and Prairie Avenue, he said.
Paramedics transported the officer and the other motorist for treatment of ''minor-to-moderate'' injuries, he said.
The dogs were returned to their owner, who lives in the neighborhood, and police issued a citation for violation of the leash law, Ishii said.
That last link - what’s the deal? They keep talking about “strays” (which 1 may ignore as relevent), then they say this “Chow Chow mix” was tied in grampa’s yard.
I seem to read a horrible pit bull story on FR or somewhere at least a few times a week.
When are we going to outlaw these dogs?
Right after we ‘outlaw’ various human sub groups....
>This is 1 of the things that bugs me, too - the MUTTS. Everyone seems to love to ID a dog by a breed (or at least, type). Perhaps when the dog is virtually unidentifiable, its not as fun to pick up the story.<
Even so called “professionals” frequently have trouble identifying a dog’s breed. Go to Petfinder.com and search for “German Shepherd” to see what I mean. Our local humane society typically identifies every shaggy little Heinz 57 as a “terrier mix”, even when, to a student of dog breeds, the critter is far more likely to be a blend of poodle, or shih tzu/lhasa apso.
There are less Terriers registered by AKC each year than any other AKC group. If these dog catchers are correct in identifying their charges, they would have to be the most sexually active dogs on the planet.
They do focus a lot on the stray problem.
Perhaps because it allowed them to mention “pitbulls” twice in the article ;~D
I guess the link is...
“The family had apparently taken the stray dog under it’s wing”
Right. I missed that the 1st time.
Not just “active”, but “prolific”. Most terriers are small, and don’t produce more than say 6 pups per. Larger dogs aren’t unusual to output 10 pups per.
The Dog of Peace strikes again.
A horse is a very dangerous animal.
Aside from the animal intenionally harming you, it has great potential for accidentally harming you from its great size alone.
And in populated areas, should it get free and run into a street, it can cause a deadly auto collision.
But horse ownership makes at least some sense if the horse is owned for sport or for work, and not as an overgrown lapdog.
(And for the most part, if the horse is a working horse, the owner would be wise not to become too familiar in his affections with the animal, else it will lose respect for him--same as any leader being too familiar with his followers. LOL. In a sense, even the horse seems to "know" the ower is a fool for coddling it. Of course, there are exceptions--I suppose.)
I completely agree. It's amazing that the PB fans don't get this.
Point out one.
To what purpose? It is obvious from the posts themselves.
What you are saying...correct me if I'm wrong...is that...
"the PB fans don't get" that the damage a PB can do
is potentially greater than the damage a chihuahua can do.
If that is what you're saying, I am asking you to point out just one of those "fans"
(all of them would be even better)
"To what purpose?"
If you can point out someone who 'doesn't get it' , it would give me
the opportunity to confront that "fan" and attempt to education them.
If you cannot, it shines a rather revealing light on your character.
You are either an individual who knowingly lies
and callously casts unwarranted aspersions on others...
or your opinions are so biased and entrenched that they blind you to reality.
Knowing this would help guide my response to you in the future.
Yeah, right. Get real. It was an opinion about the nature of the arguments I see here not an absolute statement. If you disagree you disagree.
You are either an individual who knowingly lies ...
Not at all. It is truly my opinion that the PB defenders here are unconcerned that PBs have the ability to seriously injure or kill adult humans. I am far from alone in seeing that POV come across in their posts.
...and callously casts unwarranted aspersions on others...
How hyperbolic, dramatic and emotional. It was an opinion.
...or your opinions are so biased and entrenched that they blind you to reality.
The reality that PBs have the strength, the ability to ignore pain, an inbred fearlessness to fight to the death and enormous stamina? Or the reality that PB owners pass those things off as irrelevant to public safety questions? Or is it the reality that PB owners frequently post that "it's the owners not the dogs?" Is it really necessary to cut-and-paste those quotes?
Knowing this would help guide my response to you in the future.
You obviously already feel free to cast aspersions in my direction on a rather thin basis. I don't think I want to help you ratchet it up. ;^)
No it was not and it was not about any of the "reality" you speak of...
It was a slur, the "reality" as you see it, that some unnamed posters, the so-called PB fans,
are unable to distinguish between the damage a PB can do compared to a chihuahua.
The difference is, the only thing a violent chihuahua can harm is a butterfly, or your ankles. I completely agree. It's amazing that the PB fans don't get this. |
You have choosen neither
and in fact added to your insult about the posters ability to discern
by attacking their morality as well...
"It is truly my opinion that the PB defenders here are unconcerned
that PBs have the ability to seriously injure or kill adult humans."
If you disagree you disagree.
It is not that simple, it is not a matter of personal taste,
it is a matter of a unwarranted personal attack that you have made on a group of posters.
Will you retract your statements or make more excuses for them?
No.
Cheers

Anything that scares sheeple.
Yes, a little.
I can tell even from the photo that I would never turn my back on that dog, and would prefer to be armed in its presence.
