“Al Douri and all of his men are going to need to be given clemency for all the crimes that they committed.”
We can’t do that to the Kurds.
You've got to understand something important: Iraq is not our country, nor is it our colony, territory, vassal, or satrapy.
That means that in the end, it's not our decision to make, the Iraqi people are the ones that have to do what it takes to end the war.
Look on the bright side: at least Saddam is dead and not coming back.
I hate to say this, but if we don't largely put an end to this war well before November 2008, the Dems then in charge of Congress and the White House be surrendering entirely early in 2009 no matter what the status is. We'll be leaving the Kurds to the gentle mercies of the Iranians and maybe the Turks.
Would it have been worth winning the Vietnam war in 1970 if the price was including General Giap in the reunified Vietnamese government?
Realpolitik is a bitch.
“We cant do that to the Kurds.”
Why, Bush I abandoned the Kurds to Saddam back in 1992. He didn’t gas them, but he certainly encouraged them to revolt, and when they did was not there with the support they needed to get the job done.
We’ve done enough to them already anyway, what’s a little more?
