I don’t know which one they put in the water, but toothpaste contains sodium flouride.
We have whole house reverse osmosis, so I don’t particularly care what they put in the water.
“If you want fluoride then use a fluoride rinse and toothpaste. I dont want it in my water every time I take a drink and I dont want to ingest it.”
using filtered or bottled water is not adequate. Since many products are created using tap water you still end up getting an overdose of fluoride. Products like soda, juice, soup, cereal, fish, and canned meats all have fluoride in them. In some cases they have been shown to exceed the EPA limits.

Also this quote is interesting: “Virtually all authors have noted that some children could ingest more fluoride from dentrifice (toothpaste) alone than is recommended as a total daily fluoride ingestion.”

Sodium Monoflourophosphate is not a problem. THe benefits far outweigh any potential risks

The possible relationship between fluoridated water and cancer has been debated at length. The debate resurfaced in 1990 when a study by the National Toxicology Program, part of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, showed an increased number of osteosarcomas (bone tumors) in male rats given water high in fluoride for 2 years (3). However, other studies in humans and in animals have not shown an association between fluoridated water and cancer (4).
In a February 1991 Public Health Service (PHS) report, the agency said it found no evidence of an association between fluoride and cancer in humans. The report, based on a review of more than 50 human epidemiological (population) studies produced over the past 40 years, concluded that optimal fluoridation of drinking water does not pose a detectable cancer risk to humans as evidenced by extensive human epidemiological data reported to date (4).
In one of the studies reviewed for the PHS report, scientists at the National Cancer Institute evaluated the relationship between the fluoridation of drinking water and the number of deaths due to cancer in the United States during a 36-year period, and the relationship between water fluoridation and number of new cases of cancer during a 15-year period. After examining more than 2.2 million cancer death records and 125,000 cancer case records in counties using fluoridated water, the researchers found no indication of increased cancer risk associated with fluoridated drinking water (5).
In 1993, the Subcommittee on Health Effects of Ingested Fluoride of the National Research Council, part of the National Academy of Sciences, conducted an extensive literature review concerning the association between fluoridated drinking water and increased cancer risk. The review included data from more than 50 human epidemiological studies and six animal studies. The Subcommittee concluded that none of the data demonstrated an association between fluoridated drinking water and cancer (5). A 1999 report by the CDC supported these findings. The report concluded that studies to date have produced no credible evidence of an association between fluoridated drinking water and an increased risk for cancer (2).
Never drink tap water and flouride is only one of the reasons.
I clicked on “YES” and it didn’t change the number at all. Still only 51 for yes.
Your Father In Law is absolutely right, but that won’t end the conspiracy kooks.
I’ve lived in places with floridated and non floridated water, and people, particularly children have abysmal teeth where the water is not floridated.
If your water isn’t floridated, your child will be subjected to floride treatments by a dentist to make up for it annually or semi annually.
Pier reviewed medical journals have proven the safety and efficacy of floridated water for over 50 years now.. in fact the whole reason that water supplies got floridated in the first place was because of the study of why some areas had people with far more healthier teeth that others... Turns out the places that had high floride naturally in their drinking water had healthier teeth, and no, no link to higher rates of cancer were found in these areas.
However the fear mongering that floridated water causes cancer has been going on ever since.
“Hydrogen hydroxide kills more people than any other chemical. It should be banned or at least regulated. As it is now anyone can possess it.”
H2O? So you are implying that all chemicals are the same?
“We have whole house reverse osmosis, so I dont particularly care what they put in the water.”
See my post 30. You may have a filter but the food products you buy were made by people without filters.
I really don’t understand the fuss. It doesn’t work so why add it?
Agreed...try the banana next time; it's at least bearable.
No decent scientist would publish anything trying to disprove a negative. By the very basics of scientific research it can't be done. So to defend your lack of evidenciery support for your assertion, which is a positive statement and can be proved or disproved, you request something that cannot exist.
Don’t confuse them with the facts.. come on, you’ll end their conspiracy.
Talk to any detist that practices in an area where floride is not added to the water supply, and you’ll know the truth quickly.
When we moved to Cali for a year, and my son, wife and I who have lived our entire lives until then in with floridated water, went to the dentist there, he was fully amazed at the condition of our teeth, compared to most people he saw, and immediately realized we were not born or raised in that area.
When I asked him why they don’t floridate the water there, he said basically fear mongering has kept it from being done. I’d never in my life seen a child with cavities in their baby teeth before moving there... He said basically he makes more money living there fixing issues that should not even be if they would just floridate the water.
And no, having a floride treatment every 6 or 12 months by a dentist is not the same, its better than nothing, but its not the same.
I can’t believe the lies and conspiracy nonsense are still being perpetuated on this topic.
And for the record... cancer rates were far higher per 1000 in the area of Cali I lived than they were where I was from, so was autism. The floridated water causing cancer is a complete myth and hoax, and it needs to die.

Accolades for your doublespeak!!!!!
Sure go ahead. Add anything you want.
Vaquero,
LOL...one of my all time favorite movies.
“Gen. Jack D. Ripper: Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?
Please don’t add water to my Fluoride!
Everybody cites anecdotal evidence that peoples’ teeth are better now, therefore it must be the fluoride. Modern water supplies contain chlorine, too, as well as other chemicals, so cause and effect could be more complex than we think. Modern American children have consistent access to healthy food and many take vitamin and mineral supplements. That could also have an effect on tooth health.
I drank fluoridated water and had fluoride treatments growing up and had a mouth full of cavities. My children have done neither and have never had a cavity. Anecdotal, but I’m not going to change what’s working. I made the choice after seeing a friend’s child with flouridosis. Ugly and irreversible.
My kids also drink virtually no soda and eat very little junk compared to most kids. They’re homeschooled so I have more control over what goes into their bodies than a lot of parents. I think nutrition has a more to do with their healthy teeth than anything else.
