Just one more reason to avoid drinking anything but distilled water (or rain water) and pure grain alcohol.

And just one more reason to add to the inevitable flood of Dr. Strangelove references

Please provide peer reviewed medical/scientific evidence that its not hurting us. thanks’

That was pathetic. Why don’t you prove that you are not dumb as a box of retarded hammers?

>>Most people don’t realize the harm it is doing. there is strong evidence it is causing serious diseases.<<]

Got a link?

The studies I’ve seen suggest that the recent trend toward bottled water without fluoride is causing an increase in tooth decay.

http://www.fluoridealert.org/professionals.statement.html has a lot of information.

This link has information on the harm fluoride is doing. http://www.fluorideaction.org/statement.august.2007.html

1. The publication in 2006 of a 500-page review of fluoride’s toxicology by a distinguished panel appointed by the National Research Council of the National Academies (NRC, 2006). The NRC report concluded that the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) safe drinking water standard for fluoride (i.e. maximum contaminant level goal or MCLG) of 4 parts per million (ppm) is unsafe and should be lowered. Despite over 60 years of fluoridation, the report listed many basic research questions that have not been addressed. Still, the panel reviewed a large body of literature in which fluoride has a statistically significant association with a wide range of adverse effects. These include an increased risk of bone fractures, decreased thyroid function, lowered IQ, arthritic-like conditions, dental fluorosis and, possibly, osteosarcoma.

1. The average fluoride daily intakes (*) associated with many of these adverse effects are reached by some people consuming water at the concentration levels now used for fluoridation — especially small children, above average water drinkers, diabetics, people with poor kidney function and other vulnerable sub-groups.

2. The evidence provided by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2005 that 32% of American children have dental fluorosis – an abnormal discoloration and mottling of the enamel. This irreversible and sometimes disfiguring condition is caused by fluoride.

3. The American Dental Association’s policy change, in November 2006, recommending that only the following types of water be used for preparing infant formula during the first 12 months of life: “purified, distilled, deionized, demineralized, or produced through reverse osmosis.”

4. The CDC’s concession, in 1999 and 2001, that the predominant benefit of fluoride in reducing tooth decay is TOPICAL and not SYSTEMIC. (meaning when applied to the outside of the tooth and not from within the body)

5. In 2000, the publication of the UK government sponsored “York Review,” the first systematic scientific review of fluoridation, found that NONE of the studies purporting to demonstrate the effectiveness of fluoridation to reduce tooth decay were of grade A status, i.e. “high quality, bias unlikely”

6. The publication in May 2006 of a peer-reviewed, case-controlled study from Harvard University which found a 5-7 fold increase in osteosarcoma (a frequently fatal bone cancer) in young men associated with exposure to fluoridated water during their 6th, 7th and 8th years (Bassin et al., 2006).

7. The admission by federal agencies, in response to questions from a Congressional subcommittee in 1999-2000, that the industrial grade waste products used to fluoridate over 90% of America’s drinking water supplies (fluorosilicate compounds) have never been subjected to toxicological testing or FDA safety-tested approved for human ingestion

8. The publication in 2004 of “The Fluoride Deception” by Christopher Bryson. This meticulously researched book showed that industrial interests, concerned about liabilities from fluoride pollution and health effects on workers, played a significant role in the early promotion of fluoridation.

This is the stupidest debate ever. Don’t add it, period.

Why not add vitamin C, and the B vitamins. Throw in some Omega 3s and Lipitor. It’s ridiculous.

If you want fluoride then use a fluoride rinse and toothpaste. I don’t want it in my water every time I take a drink and I don’t want to ingest it.

That site is pretty sad. If they don’t even know the difference between sodium fluoride and calcium fluoride, it shouldn’t be given any credence.

I voted no because I want other people to have crappier looking teeth than me. I think everybody else should stop using toothpaste, toothbrushes and floss. It’s positively unnatural. Do you see lions brushing or flossing?

Calcium fluoride is added to water and is safe, sodium fluoride is what people refer to when mentioning the toxic nature of fluoride.

According to Wikipedia, calcium fluoride is insoluble. It also says that sodium fluoride used to be the compound added to water, but has been replaced:

"NaF was once used to fluoridate drinking water but its use has been displaced by hexafluorosilicic acid (H2SiF6) or its sodium salt (Na2SiF6)."

“That was pathetic. Why don’t you prove that you are not dumb as a box of retarded hammers?”

Why don’t you prove that you arent retarded in addition to being offensive. So far your attempts to discuss have been pathetic. You attempted to refute my statement by implying there was no scientific proof.

In reality there is a mountain of proof that fluoridation hurts more than it helps. The sole purpose of adding fluoride to the water supply is to prevent tooth decay. Since people are still getting cavities it sure doesn’t seem to work. Looking at the statements issued by the Dental associations we understand that Dentists agree.

The idea may have been useful when people weren’t brushing their teeth with toothpaste containing fluoride.

“We are on well water so I have to get the fluoride treatment every time I get my teeth cleaned.”

I would suggest determining what the fluoride level is in the well water you consume and how much you consume before assuming this. I worked on many patients whose well water far exceeded what was considered optimal, often times resulting in fluorosis, which can cause brown intrinsic staining of teeth. They were actually harder than typical teeth with normal fluoride levels, but that unsightly brown mottled appearance was not attractive.

I so love the fluoridation threads-

Partly because it is good discussion...

Mostly for the references to General Ripper.

Hydrogen hydroxide kills more people than any other chemical. It should be banned or at least regulated. As it is now anyone can possess it.
