Jackson calls for slavery apology

Jesse Jackson is on a week-long
tour of the UK

US civil rights activist Jesse Jackson has called on Britain to apologise and make reparations for its role in the slave trade. During a visit to Bristol, the Rev Jackson, 65, said he was disappointed that British cities had not apologised.

Speaking at the Empire and Commonwealth Museum, the Rev Jackson said: "There must be some place to apologise for the wrong in a moral sense."

Bristol has never formally apologised for its links to slavery.

In 1982, however, the former Bishop Of Clifton, Mervyn Alexander asked forgiveness for the human misery caused by the trade

"It does not surprise me but it disappoints me that there has been no apology," said the Rev Jackson.

Operation Black Vote said the Economics of Colour event in the city had celebrated the "political dynamism" of the city's black and minority ethnic communities.

More than 500 supporters rose to their feet as the Rev Jackson took to the stage.

Mr Jackson will also visit Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and Bradford during his week-long tour.

Nottingham will apologize for slavery when we apologize for casting Kevin Costner as Nottingham’s famous resident, Robin Hood.

What nerve. If it weren’t for William Wilberforce’s tireless efforts in the British Parliament, and the British Navy’s courageous and unilateral enforcement of a ban on the slave trade on the high seas regardless of the nation involved, we’d still be shaking off racist chattel slavery today.

Britain owes no one an apology when it comes to slavery.

Has he ever asked Africa to pay reparations? arab nations? my understanding of history is that a) Africans sold africans, and b) the Arabs/muslims were the first to enslave people. Correct me if I’m wrong please.

Since Je$$e Jack$on is going international, he needs to visit those African nations that still practice slavery. But he NEVER WILL because there’s no money to be made from it. Je$$e Jack$on cares about minorities the way Bill Clinton cares about Monica. By the way, I keep hearing that Je$$e is a ‘reverend’. Where is the church he pastors?

Having exhausted his credibility in the U.S., Jackson launches new initiative to shake down Brits.

When will a leading political leader respond to Jesse and just tell him to STFU and get lost?
