Financial pressures force Snow departure

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

WASHINGTON - White House press secretary Tony Snow said Friday he'll leave sometime before the end of the Bush presidency because of financial pressures.

He declined to say when he would depart, but that, "I'm going to stay as long as I can."

The 52-year-old Snow, the father of three children, earns $168,000 as an assistant to the president but made considerably more as a conservative pundit and syndicated talk-show host on Fox News Radio. He was named press secretary on April 26, 2006.

The White House has been shaken by the resignations of some of President Bush's closest aides. Political strategist Karl Rove announced Monday that he would leave at the end of the month. Longtime Bush adviser Dan Bartlett left earlier this year and Andrew Card left earlier as Bush's chief of staff.

Bush's term ends on Jan. 20, 2009.

"I will not be able to make it to the end of this administration, just financially," Snow said. "This job has been such a pleasant surprise in how much I like it. I love it."

Snow has been undergoing chemotherapy after doctors discovered a recurrence of colon cancer in March. He said the last of eight scheduled chemotherapy treatments would be on Friday. On Monday he will have a CAT scan to evaluate his progress.

Prayers for Tony Snow. Although I have not always agreed with the administration and his defense of it, he has been loyal to the the President and an inspiration to those fighting illnesses.

I thought he had colon cancer, not liver cancer

The primary malignancy was in the colon.

However, it has now spread to his liver. Hepatic cancer is usually swift and unrelenting.

I didn’t know it had spread to his liver. I’m sorry to hear that.

Maybe you should have had another cup of coffee and thought a bit more and read thru this thread before making that comment.

I’m glad it’s not his health. Of course the speculation I’m reading is it is his integrity which cannot allow him to stay with Bush. What is your take on this?

Money doesn’t neccesaily buy health. Medicine is a practice, not a perfected science.

I believe him. If he was leaving for other reasons, salary would never be mentioned as you never hear salary as the lame excuse. You would hear “time with the family”, etc.

And, if a man does not know if he will live or not, with heavy medical expenses, he would feel he should be making as much as possible for the benefit of the three children should he be gone.

Tony is a fine man. Politics is not playing a part in this.
When you have problems like Tony has, you realize the things that are important.

W may well be the lamest of lame ducks.

Nope that would be BJ Clinton, who other then getting impeached and bombing the heck out of Iraq, did nothing for the last 2.5 years of his Presidency.

But I must compliment you. Yous may be the most politically incompetent political anaysis I have ever heard. Guess you missed the fact that the President's approval rating has gone back up to 40% while the Democrat Congress's rating is a record breaking low 14%.

As incredibly difficult as it is to believe, the Democrat Congress is the lame duck here. Other then the habitual defections of the 4 pretend Republicans in the US Senate, the Democrats have given him something he never had in the 1st 7 years of his Presidency. A unified, effective Republican Congressional Leadership.

See the dirty little secret is 58 of those Democrats represent districts that voted 51% or more for GW Bush in 2004. Pretty tough to win your district by running as Reagan 2 then go to DC and be John Kerry JR.

One of the reasons the Democrats are such lame ducks is having lied their way into power in 2006, they suddenly discovered about 65 Democrat US House members who were NOT willing to totally sign on to the radical Leftist agenda of the Pelosie-Reid regime.

But you keep clinging to your Know Nothing Talk Radio dogmas screamed at you by pseudo Conservative con men who donate all their campaign donations to Democrat campaigns. Be so much funnier to watch when reality smacks you in the face if you cling to your dogma.

Shucks, and here I was hoping that Snow was leaving because he finally realized what a nutball, stupid and destructive scheme it is to open our borders and flood America with those who don't care for it, or actively work to destroy it.

God bless, Mr. Snow!
