Financial pressures force Snow departure
By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent
WASHINGTON - White House press secretary Tony Snow said Friday he'll leave sometime before the end of the Bush presidency because of financial pressures.
He declined to say when he would depart, but that, "I'm going to stay as long as I can."
The 52-year-old Snow, the father of three children, earns $168,000 as an assistant to the president but made considerably more as a conservative pundit and syndicated talk-show host on Fox News Radio. He was named press secretary on April 26, 2006.
The White House has been shaken by the resignations of some of President Bush's closest aides. Political strategist Karl Rove announced Monday that he would leave at the end of the month. Longtime Bush adviser Dan Bartlett left earlier this year and Andrew Card left earlier as Bush's chief of staff.
Bush's term ends on Jan. 20, 2009.
"I will not be able to make it to the end of this administration, just financially," Snow said. "This job has been such a pleasant surprise in how much I like it. I love it."
Snow has been undergoing chemotherapy after doctors discovered a recurrence of colon cancer in March. He said the last of eight scheduled chemotherapy treatments would be on Friday. On Monday he will have a CAT scan to evaluate his progress.
Thanks, save. It IS his hair that had me concerned - nearly white.
Thanks, Bahbah!
He appreciates our concern, but I think it would do us all a lot of good, and would do Tony a lot of good, if we would just simmer down and not worry so much. ;-)
the value of having once been President whoever’s
presss secrectary goes down rapidly
when ‘whoever’ leaves office.
:-) All the dark hair fell out during chemo, but the formula that makes that happen is done. His last chemo is done (Yay) and he will get new treatments that won’t make that happen.
Thanks for this update save; I’m pleased to hear Tony sounds so upbeat. He can and will do as much good outside the job of press secretary as he is doing inside the job of press secretary. He will be known in history as the best for this job. I wish him only the best; he is a true patriot.
I knew he was (nearly) finished with chemo. I am so very glad he is doing okay, considering all he has been through.
It spread to his liver.
Thank you, Laverne!
A little positive thinking goes much farther than we can even know.
Did you see him on with Brian Lamb?
No, I usually only see him or hear about him on Fox. Thanks for the link.
:-) I am sure he will get the message from you, McGruff!
What a relief:) Thanks for the ping!
I mentioned this on another thread- but just to illustrate- when my son went through heavy chemo- he looked like hell for months.. just the way Tony does. It’s amazing what losing eyebows and even eyelashes do to change the look of someone.
Tony is a gem..he’ll look like his polished self in no time!
:-) It is a fantastic interview. I’ll stop there because nothing I can say really captures how great it is.
I have to sign off for the day now,
Have a wonderful day everyone!
Cheers,
sl
So, unless you are a government employee with insider knowledge of available group plans for federal civil servants, I'll write your comments off as ignorance of how federal benefits actually work.
Oh, here's your link:
Nothing like a little editorializing
Thanks so much for the ping.
Very, very good news.
Prayers up for Tony.
That is great news. I do remember Tony saying, after he was done with his chemo that his hair had come back and it came back in a darker color which was his natural hair color
Thank you for the message from Tony. He is a treasure.
