F.R. defamed as "Hate Site" by Fox 5 News! [FOX News' Bill O'Reilly started this B/S]
Fox 5 News ^ | 8/16/07 | crusher

I was listening to the news out of the corner of my ear when I heard FreeRepublic specifically mentioned as a "hate site" about fifteen minutes ago.

Ostensibly the long report was about the Klan using the web to recruit new wackos. Then the focus turned to Casa Maryland, and their director who claimed that calls for his murder had circulated on the internet by anti-immigrant bigots. It was then that the anchor identified FR by name as a hate site.

Did O’Reilly really say FR was a hate site? If he did, I missed that particular broadcast and will certainly take that issue up with him. I can’t believe he would be so sloppy with his research!

More than likely, any examples would show an overuse of the word hate. Hate is a pretty strong emotion, and not one I have seen displayed here.

This poster has only a limited experience in this subject. One day I was particularly incensed about what our President was (in my opinion that day) doing to demolish the GOP.

I was pretty irritated. I think I made that clear in my post. Got a couple of responses in agreement, actually. And then...

That post, and the entire thread, suddenly vanished.

I freaked. (remembering as I write that, that old song about about the diner called Eats, Sit and Go: “the guy sitting next to me ... was a Martian!”) But I digress. :)

I was not notified that I was aware of. I was rather concerned perhaps I might not be able to log on next time. Happily that didn’t happen.

A lot of posters were getting posts vaporized, and getting banned during the controversy surrounding the amnesty proposals.

Seems to have calmed down now. I think that means we need to all get that worked up ... about leftists!!

I can’t believe he [BOR] would be so sloppy with his research!

O'Reilly has known about FR for a long time -- he knew precisely what he was doing.

The left has been getting hit a lot for their hate sites. Therefore, in order for some in the MSM to maintain the stance of moral equivalence that they love so much, they need to find an equivalent “hate” site on the right. Looks like FR might be the designated victim here. Expect more to be thrown our way.

“It rally is a sad reality for a free nation.”

It is sooo sad, especially at this time in our history when socialist liberals are renaming themselves as being progressives, when if the truth be known, they are something much worse then just a liberal, that’s actually already the polite way to describe them. Here we are, dealing with most manipulative group to ever enter American Politics, and now our expression of thought has been hamstrung by someone like O’Reilly? Of all people? It just goes to show you, you can’t trust anyone. And looking back, I should have known better. How sad.

Jessica Lynch, for one, got a lot of hate directed at her, all undeserved. She was not trained properly but she was no criminal.

All that'll end up doing is giving FR an enormous amount of free pub. Folks will want to see for themselves what all the fuss is about, probably agree with much of what they read here, and then they'll be hooked for good.

The word “hate” has not been used in our home. Here, it’s considered a 4-letter word. We’ve taught our children to use other words and phrases, like “I can’t stand that” or “I don’t like that.” “Hate” truly is a strong word; an ugly word.

“This is a smear tactic”

And an organized one, too....

These rumbles started over the weekend, I which tells me that someone is orchestrating the news again.

Not like we haven’t seen THAT before, eh?

We ARE a threat to the left, because we have been VERY effective at calling them out on thier propogandic lies, and this site IS monitored by many in the media.

If they succeed in branding this a “Hate” site, then everything that comes from here, that counters leftist rhetoric and lies, is suspect.

I don't know if you have followed the kerfuffle over O'Reilly trying to compare Daily Kos to FR because of his claims of lowbrow posts on FR. Some of his claims were false, but one or two did tie to actual posts that no one notified the moderators about. The mods simply cannot read every FR thread - they count on the body of Freepers to help maintain basic posting standards so FR doesn't become a cesspool like Daily Kos or most other liberal websites.

Some abuse posts are fairly mild - maybe an implied F-bomb or material not quite suitable for FR.

Others cross the line into racist posts or calls for violence. FR has a vested interest in removing such posts as they happen, as the O'Reilly incident has demonstrated.

So, like I said, if a post is simply removed by the moderator without notification, the transgression was probably not that big a deal.

If the moderators DO contact you about your post, the transgression was probably much worse. As in, post that again and you will get suspended or worse.

OK. We hate. We hate soul-destroying socialism. We hate enslaving communism. We hate murder and mahem in all of it’s forms. We hate oppressive and enslaving government, etc. Truth in labeling.

I agree, and the same was true in my home. Hate is a viscous word. Shut-up was another no no.
