mountain movement caused this collapse

Does mountain movement mean earthquake?

I’m still confused over the cause of these seismic events. The owner keeps saying the quakes caused the wall collapses and the seismologists keep calling them mining-induced quakes.

Which comes first, the chicken or the egg, the mine or the quake?

Hey there,,,The whole mountain is settling,,,the roof of this mine is still in place,,,it’s the walls that are blowing in from the pressure,,,goes off with explosive force
Called a bump/bounce/rock-burst/rib-burst,,,
It ain’t no earthquake,,,

I agree. I believe the owner is very distraught. It was considered one of the safest mines in the U.S.

I imagine that's why you see chain-link fencing all along the walls and ceiling. To try to hold back some of the debris shooting from the walls/ceilings during a bounce.

Off the cuff, there are 3 medical helicopters in the air, one just lifted off from near the mine headed for UMed Hospital in SLC. One has just left LDS Hospital in SLC for Price. One is at the mine. It appears that one more has been requested.

It’s a tough life, mining. I wish these folks well. It’s so sad when the inevitable cave-ins come. The most important thing we can do for them, is to make sure mining concerns always dot their “I”s and cross their “T”s as it applies to safety requirements.

My thoughts are with these men and their families tonight. My heart goes out to them all.

I think you’re wrong about him. The guy is in his 80’s, give him a break. He’s doing the best he can in very bad circumstances. I think he cares very much about those trapped miners. He has said he himself was a miner and in the mining business for 50 years. And I beg to differ with those who say he’s not that bright. I think the man is exceedingly bright and thorough with his review of what is taking place each day. You aren’t in the mining business for 50 years without being extremely knowledgeable about your subject matter.

He's also the son of a coal miner. He might have made it big, but I think he remembers "where he came from."

Yes there are harder and less safe jobs. More truck drivers, and construction workers die yearly than coal miners.

Coal mining is dangerous, but today’s technology offers much more hope than in the days my grandpas worked in them.

The mining industry is highly scrutinized, and receives a lot of criticism because most folks don’t understand resource extraction —mining and logging are necessary for the way the world currently works.

I just tuned into this latest report, and it appears there has been another collaspe, and rescueers have been injured. We don’t know at this point.

Don’t blame the mine owners, I suspect he is doing everthing possible to save these men.

We need to just keep praying for all of these men and the rescurers right now.
