Giuliani: 'Leave My Family Alone'

DERRY, N.H. (AP) - Republican Rudy Giuliani said Thursday that people should "leave my family alone" when asked by a New Hampshire woman why the presidential candidate should expect loyalty from voters when he doesn't get it from his children.

Answering questions at a town-hall meeting, Giuliani was asked why he should expect loyalty from GOP voters when his children aren't backing him.

"I love my family very, very much and will do anything for them. There are complexities in every family in America," Giuliani said calmly and quietly. "The best thing I can say is kind of, 'leave my family alone, just like I'll leave your family alone.'"

His comments were greeted with a smattering of applause from the audience of about 120 people. Giuliani urged them to judge him based on his performance as mayor and a federal prosecutor, and he launched into a list of his successes such as reducing crime and welfare and prosecuting organized crime figures and drug dealers.

Reagan’s family troubles were not in the same league as Giuliani’s. Besides, Giuliani is a scumbag. Just ask Michael Milken and Leona Helmsley—both of whom Giuliani railroaded with perjury and outrageous abuse of statutes.

“Giuliani is a scumbag. Just ask Michael Milken and Leona Helmsley—both of whom Giuliani railroaded with perjury and outrageous abuse of statutes.”

Giuliani was a prosecutor and Millken and Helmsley are criminals.

You’ve picked the wrong scumbags!

OK got it...cheap shots are OK with a "scumbag" - now that's principled. ;-)

Huh? Reagan's daughter won't even use his name, to this day! She was a total nutjob all through his campaigns and presidency. His son goes on MSNBC declaring that Republicans are murderers because they won't support embryonic stem cell research.

Within reason, no issues are off the table in a presidential campaign. Its not necessary to bring his personal life into the political arena. There is plenty of ammunition to attack his liberal record as Mayor of NYC.

OTOH, Rooty made the choice to enter politics and starting in 1989 his life has been an open book. The public scrutiny isn't about to stop. So stop whining Rooty. The heat on your leftwing politics and the spotlight on your private life goes with the territory.

I would have asked him why I should trust him if he’s willing to cheat on his wife he swore to love and cherish before God.

That's exactly it. The same went for Bill Clinton; what these guys do in their personal lives reveals their character. A president makes countless decisions that we never know about. Therefore, we must be able to trust their character, not just their expressed viewpoints and political platforms.

In a perfect world, a candidate's children would be off-limits from scrutiny. This is NOT a perfect world. And, of course, Rudy's campaigning to run against Herself, so anything goes. (Sorry, can't really call Rudy a Republican!)

“This will obviously be an issue...”

Shouldn’t be.

There are many reasons to oppose Rudy without bringing his children into it.

Rudy Giuliani said Thursday that people should "leave my family alone".

"If I could, you guys could," he noted. "I mean, you don't even have to kick them out of the house."

If he is willing to treat his own family like that, think of what he’ll do to the terrorists... :p

BTW, I like rudy and as a social conservative I won’t hesistate to vote for him. The Dems can take the teenager vote and Rudy will go after the I want to strangle my teenager vote.

“Ron Jr. is an embarrassment to the Reagan name so you Rudy haters calm down.”

Ron Jr.’s dance belt was so tight it cut off blood circulation to his brain. Now he is a liberal TV commentator.
