Good Words For Cpl. Sharratt
2007-08-16
Before he is forgotten by the media, a few good words should be said about Marine Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt. After all, he was on the receiving end of a great many malicious and defamatory ones.
Cpl. Sharratt was involved in a firefight at the town of Haditha in Nov. 2005. Later, there were allegations civilians were killed in the town. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., declared at a press conference, "our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood."
The Los Angeles Times ran an editorial titled, "What happened at the Iraqi My Lai?" Actually, calling this incident a My Lai indicates the editors had already made up their minds about what happened.
Cpl. Sharratt was as innocent as the three Duke Lacrosse players. While originally charged with murder, the court quickly found out Cpl. Sharratt was only defending himself.
An editorial in Investors Business Daily summed up the incident: "The facts as revealed clearly demonstrate that the incident was part of a planned ambush by insurgents that used civilians as human shields, and that despite the claims of Rep. Murtha and his media allies, this was not murder but the tragic result of a firefight in which U.S. Marines were honorably defending themselves.
"Now, the truth also is undergoing a surge."
Alas, just as many in the mainstream media were prepared to condemn the Duke Lacrosse players, they were equally prepared to condemn American soldiers such as Cpl, Sharratt without waiting for facts or verification.
Because of his fondness for earmarks, Rep. Murtha has earned the nickname "King of Corruption."
The Pennsylvania congressman has not yet apologized to Cpl. Sharratt. It seems Rep. Murthas corruption extends to more than financial misdeeds.
Shame on you....Jack Murtha!!!!!!!
I wonder why murtha hates these servicemen so much that he is willing to lie about them?
The armed forces of our country represent, in most cases, some of the very best people our country has to offer. Jack Murtha had some service and he is an exception to that rule for he is a vile man; there are bad apples in the barrel occasionally. Jack Murtha so hates our country that he will use any means available to destroy its reputation. He is part of a long line of hate America firsters such as Karl Lenin, Hairy Reid, Nancy Babushka, George Voinovich, et al.
Bump
john murtha is nothing more than pig sh!t.
I would only accept an apology from JM if it was attached to a check covering each and everyone of the Haditha Marines’ legal expense. Oh, and it would have to be sprayed down with a can of Lysol.

Thanks for the PING.
I am so happy for the Sharratt family. What absolute hell they had to endure.
I still believe that General Mattis’ statements on both Capt Stone and L Cpl Sharratt bodes well for the rest of Haditha Marines.
I would not accept an apology from Murtha. Neither would I shake his outstretched hand. Whether he knew or not, he should have known, where this investigation was going. For what he didn’t know, he should have shut his pie hole. Murtha remains a public liar.
By all means, I wouldn’t want anyone to shake chub chub’s hand either.
>> Cpl. Sharratt was as innocent as the three Duke Lacrosse players.
I don’t care for analogies like these. The Marines were engaged in severe battle for their lives while serving our Country. The Duke Lacrosse players involved themselves in a mess of a completely different kind. There may be parallels regarding prosecutorial zealotry, but the events that sparked the politically charged scandals are simply too far apart and of unequal honor.
Clarity of mind.
