I think I read it lasted two minutes. Isn't that awfully long for an earthquake? (Sorry, I'm from Boston, and we really don't get much earthquake activity around here, so I don't know.)

km 60 of the central highway, this part of the highway is blocked from a hillside collapse. stuck drivers are asking for government officials for help in clearing the road.
general salazar of the national police, informs that antonov helicopters, two of them are on their way to the airport of pisco with clothing and personnel. 50 rescue personnel are on their way. special operations are on their way.
an aircraft with supplies has also taken off in addition to the antonovs. police air division is transporting large kitchennettes(cocinas?) they are sending people by air and road, rescue teams are being sent. general david rodriguez was the official who stated this. the minister of energy states that officials are inspecting power plants and transformers are being repaired. their goal is to have some power by noon.

there are bodies all over the place, among the injured. the morgue in pisco is but a wall section. its far too small to accomodate the dead. water lines have broken and houses are flooded. they need light and power for security. we have a generator but we cant overwhelm it. the hospital is in DANGER of collapsing itself. bodies are being gathered in corners of the PLAZA DE ARMAS in pisco.
in san andres district, the sea has spilled here and some homes have been destroyed by the force of the waves. a fisherman is being asked what he needs. he is frantic “the port of san andres is destroyed”
people are calling RPP “we have nothing to eat, our children have nothing to eat” RPP is asking for donations (food, medicine, clothing)
FAP colonel informs that the airforce has established an air route, at 3am an32 antonov with several tons and another hercules with more tons of supplies. this air route will continue until ground routes are established. this is a joint effort between the military and police. the first evacuated child will arrive in lima in 40 minutes, this child has a fracture. only at daybreak could they see the magnitude of damage, according to RPP. the mother of the child describes that she is thankful to god for the help she has received. her son was injured, and..she starts crying....the roof collapsed while they watched tv.

August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption, celebrated in SA and Peru by feasting, celebrations, fireworks, prayers and church services (mass, rosary, novenas). This probably explains why the churches were occupied.
