Iraq - Petraeus Says He Will Propose Troop Cuts
Associated Press ^ | August 15, 2007 | STEVEN R. HURST

Excerpt -

BAGHDAD - The top American commander in Iraq said Wednesday he was preparing recommendations on troop cuts before he returns to Washington next month for a report to Congress, and believes the U.S. footprint in Iraq will have to be "a good bit smaller" by next summer.

But he cautioned against a quick or significant U.S. withdrawal that could surrender "the gains we have fought so hard to achieve."

Gen. David Petraeus said the "horrific and indiscriminate attacks" that killed at least 250 Yazidis, an ancient religious sect, in northwestern Iraq Tuesday night were the work of al-Qaida in Iraq. That would bolster his argument, he said, against too quickly drawing down the 30,000 additional U.S. troops deployed in the first half of the year.

What do you bet that Al-Qaida took note of the attempts of liberals to use the stoning of that Yazidi girl a few months back to make the argument that "George W. Bush and his illegal war have made life in Iraq worse". Al-Qaida saw something that our liberals could use against the Bush Administration so they decided to give them some more material. It is so agonizing that liberals can't understand how their nonsense gets people killed!

They just don’t care.

They are so insane with Bush hatred they don’t care, I don’t think they ever did.

It America and it's free institutions that they hate, anything that stands in the way of the march to socialism. Bush is just the current personification of the "Reactionary Forces". Should Thompson, Hunter or even Guiliani get elected in '08, they will then become the source of all evil. If a 'Rat is elected, then the leadership of the Republicans, be they minority or majority, in Congress will become the focus.

The Bush administration should have removed all U.S. troops from Iraq about 3,000 deaths ago.

Yeah, that is a pretty high casualty rate for a war don’t you think?

We mourn the loss of every one of our brave soldiers, but they understand a fundamental truth about this battle: the U.S. cannot afford to allow al-Qaida to establish a safe haven to train and plot against our nation, as they did in Afghanistan before 9/11. Our ultimate death toll will be much higher if we cut-and-run from Iraq and leave the enemy intact.

The primary motivation of the so-called "anti-war" movement is nothing more than revenge for the Clinton impeachment, without any thought of the consequences for our national security.

Oh, so 3000 is the magic number? If any enemy kills over 3K of our troops, we should withdraw immediately? Regardless of the consequences? Listen, Mom, I suggest you go study some history.

If we adopted that line of reasoning during World War II, we would all be speaking Japanese today.

“The Bush administration should have removed all U.S. troops from Iraq about 3,000 deaths ago.”

GHW Bush or Bill Clinton should have removed Saddam from power as soon as 1991 or no later than 1998. They let Saddam play diplomatic chicken for 12 years and finally our President called his bluff.
