Can someone who knows for sure, please explain to me why I was able to get nowhere with a complaint I had about a 4th degree Knight publicly supporting John Kerry? The man was listed as such on the “E” masthead of a website called Catholics 4 Kerry .org. His name escapes me now but, as the field coordinator of Catholics Against Kerry, I tried to get someone from the KoC to take action and was told there is no national governing body of the KoC as such and each Counsel would have to make its own decision. In other words there was nothing that could be done. I would never do anything to hurt this fine old organization, so I did not make an IRS complaint, but as far as I read the 501 rules, the KoC could lose its tax exemption if a member used his title in a political effort. More than this, such a member could be expelled for supporting a man who obviously is so hostile to the beliefs of the Catholic Church.
If you can explain these discrepancies I would love to be set straight.

Every council works differently. As far as policing politcal activism, if the guy was undercutting the Catholic position, then something should have been done. I can't answer in particular.
I know generally, that some guys were told wearing buttons at meetings was bad taste, and one guy was not invited to join when we found he was a CTA guy. I am a 4th degree too.
