yeah right.........I willing fall on my sword for my alpha male doberman just out of principle and leave a widowwoman and 5 children fatherless

with all due respect that sort of logic is nuts...

anyone who values dog life over human life has their priorities messed up.

Go to www.chandleraz.com and use the contact form to inform them of your opinion of this. I told them that I thought the dog's handler should be suspended and then charged with the death of a police officer, just as a private citizen would be.

Yorkie,
Thank you for the link.

Had to watch this beautiful program 3 times. Couldn’t see the screen the first two.

Thanks. It helped a great deal to remember that all dogs go to heaven...

NO, my priorities are perfect. My girl died June 18; I would have done anything to help her, but she was just too old, 13 1/2. And yes, I would have been one of those in New Orleans sitting on a roof top with her because I would not leave her and go in the helicopter. Besides: did you ever think that if you tried to rescue him, you might just do that and both of you would survive?

Very sad. I am sure this officer is paying dearly in his heart.

I know the pain of loosing a dog.
Mine is the first on the video.

“I’m ill, just reading this. Poor Bandit. Temperatures have been over 110 in Phoenix all week - and this dog was left in a car for the weekend?”

Me too. And it was the head of the K-9 unit who did it! Totally inexcusable in my book. Should be treated no different than other such cases.

Thanks HOTD. I read the whole story and didn’t see any explanation of how he could forget about the dog. Very sad story.

“Will he be charged with killing a police officer, the way that someone else killing a police dog would be?”

No. If the same cop shot an innocent homeowner during a no knock raid, he would be put on administrative leave with pay.

Oh give me a break, when's the last time you've placed your life in you pet's "hands"?

I acknowledge that you have a close relationship with your animals, I understand that and I share the same relationship with my dog (a pet, not a working K-9), but until you have shared a relationship with a dog as a police K-9 partner, you could never understand that relationship either.

My grandfather trained dogs for the police force and the military for decades. I remember how close he was to his dogs. They lived as part of our family. The dogs were great with us (I was raised by my grandparents), but they were his dogs, that is for sure. I know from watching him, and also from his stories, that those dogs he had as partners had a place in his heart and in his life that I would never understand fully. Years after my grandfather died, we found tapes of journals he had recorded from what his career and life with his dogs like. They were amazing.

I can say with all certainty that he would never have left his dog in his car like that.

Belgian Malanois are MAGNIFICENT dogs. According to a show I watched on Animal Planet, this is the breed most often trained to be military war dogs. A war dog has to do what a police dog does, only perform error-free without rest for 18 - 24 hours at a time.

I live in Phoenix. I simply cannot understand how anyone can leave a child or an animal in a hot car even for 30 seconds. The inside of the car skyrockets to 160 degrees within a couple of minutes. The policeman knew that!!! He gets in and out of his hot car all the time. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.......

This moron cop should be prosecuted for animal cruelty and have the book thrown at him - then fired.

Cops are responsible for upholding the law - they should be held to a HIGHER standard of behavior than ordinary folks, not a LAXER one.

But once again, the Blue Wall of Silence will close around one of their own and the “paramilitary” units will prevent justice from being visited on their own idiots.

“He should be charged like any other citizen”

Cops should be held to a higher standard of behavior than ordinary folks, not a lesser one. We should DEMAND it.

They have more power and authority and responsibility and they should proove they deserve to keep it.

This idiot obviously does not.
