Craig pushes immigration reform
Idaho Statesman ^ | 8/10/2007 | Dan Popkey

Posted on 08/13/2007 9:56:01 AM PDT by Domandred

Senator predicts millions will lose jobs after Social Security crackdown.

Pressure to pass immigration reform will intensify as millions of undocumented workers lose jobs as a result of a crackdown by the Social Security Administration, Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, said Thursday.

"What will happen over the course of the next two months is several million workers will be laid off or fired and there is no one to take their place," Craig told the Boise Rotary Club.

Craig said the Bush Administration is sending "hundreds of thousands" of letters to employers about bogus Social Security numbers. "Sorry, that name and that number don't match, or we don't have that number, or that number belongs to somebody who's already on Social Security — that's a mismatch," Craig said.

"Then you must do one of two things. You've either got to check the background of your employee, or you've got to fire them and get them off your payroll. And if you don't do that, then you're liable for the following fines starting at about 30-plus-thousands of dollars. That's the law. It's being enforced, and it should be enforced."

Be afraid - these guys won’t give up.

The Bush - Chertoff plan to suddenly enforce laws is to make the effects so painful that we will say “stop! stop!” and give in to the cheap labor lobby.

They still don’t get it.

Here’s my nickel for the extra costs added to Craig’s Idaho potatoes.

Well, we all knew there had to be a ‘plan’ behind Bush and Chertoff’s sudden push to enforce the law.
They have already started.

Interesting concept.

you are not a us citizen........
you are here illegally.........
you lied to get a job..........
you produced and or forged US government documents....
you are discovered.....
you are fired........

Sounds like a really logical line of events to me.

Now add to it and leave this country and return legally. You will have a better life and a higher paying job.

The federal government has not been enforcing the immigration laws for years on purpose. Now they think by enforcing the laws the American public is going to scream for “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” but they have another thing coming. I’d rather pay $3 for a head of lettuce than continue to see my health insurance and taxes rise because of illegal aliens.

So, if I have to forgo a few newer clothes, electronics, etc., to pay a little more for my food to sustain a reasonable wage for the ag worker, so be it.

Is this like “the day without hispanics” or what ever....in LA?

When the gangbangers sat home and crime actually dropped for a day or two?

I'm convinced Craig is owned by agricultural interests that want to employ illegal aliens. Nothing else explains his consistent pro illegal alien/anti America behavior on the issue.

My favorite local FFL is a former farmer. He saw the same hispanic faces show up for jobs at his farm with different identification and social security numbers year after year. He was legally prohibited from challenging their identification. That is a gross injustice to taxpayers who fund federal subsidies to farmers. The taxpayers are subsidizing illegal alien labor. Require any farmer who has accepted any federal subsidy to use the E-Verify system to ensure all his hires are legal. If the farmer fails to comply, prosecute, fine and make him ineligible for any federal subsidies for 5 years. Put some teeth and some consequences in the policy.

Here’s my nickel for the extra costs added to Craig’s Idaho potatoes.

Doesn't take many illegals to raise potatoes. It's mechanized. But Crag needs to find a new job.

This just tracks. This “enforcement effort” was NEVER about enforcment. It is a socratic lesson via punishment from the elitists in change.

They want to “punish the public” for daring to stop their amnesty effort. This is to soften up the public for amnesty II.

I think we probably do need temporary (legal) program for Ag workers. But it doesn’t bother me a whit to fire illegals from things like fast food restaurants, hotels, lawn care companies, etc. Worst case: prices will go up, some restaurants may close. But, as a result, Americans get off their fat ass and start doing things for themselves again. A couple less Big Macs per month never hurt anyone.

ALL of the Open Borders squishes have got to go. They have a deaf ear. We want the law enforced and the borders secured. Hey Larry - that means YOU - lead, follow or get the hell of the way!

Craig is a tool of big business. They obviously want to keep the gravy train rolling using illegal aliens.

This is where Craig is a DISSEMBLER.

CURRENT LAW DOES PROVIDE FOR SEASONAL WORKERS!!! Sugar Can growers had it for DECADES.

Firing illegals and having LEGAL migrant workers is presently the law.

Also are not much of the potato farms automated now?

This is like trying to say we need illegals to harvest wheat by hand and deny the existence of harvester combines.

We already have a program for Ag workers, i.e., H-2A visa program. H-2A Visa

Not workers but “undocumented tourists”. Next time they should bother to apply for a visa, and then be sure to not exceed the time limits.
