Personally I think its wrong. If we expect others to come through the front door, we shouldnt be making exceptions. There needs to be consistency. Just my opinion.

One problem with that, Cubans are "held hostage" by their government. If they could just fill out the appropriate paperwork and hop on a plane, I'm pretty sure they would rather do that than pile onto shipping crates and such, and float out into the ocean hoping to wash ashore before they die.
And they make tasty food.
I have less of an issue with those coming from Cuba than those coming from mexico. Mexico is a mess but it isn’t a brutal dictatorship either. Also the numbers coming from Cuba are much smaller.
Ideally they would overthrow Castro and not feel a need to flee to America.
Sadly this is the front door for them, and they are willing to die, trying to get here. We need to check them closely and make sure there are no criminals or trouble makers in the group but IMOOC America welcoming them is what makes us different. We are truly a great and Blessed nation.

There is a huge distinction between letting those feeling a totalitarian regime stay here and putting a welcome mat at the US-Mexico border.

Apparently you are unaware that current US law is that any Cuban National who makes it to US soil alive is granted automatic asylum.
