Demand to Alberto Gonzales Seeks Relief for Marine and Soldier

Advocates say they are well armed with documentation, they are demanding that the top U.S. law office investigate and prosecute the case.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A letter dispatched to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales seeks criminal prosecution for interference in the court martials of Marine Sergeant Lawrence Hutchins, III and Army Ranger Staff Sergeant Raymond Girouard.

The complaints alleges "military outlawry" and suggests that only a public demand and disclosure of relevant facts will bring relief to two American fighting men who were charged with murder in a war zone.

The author of the letter cites numerous examples throughout history that demonstrate that what is happening now is anything but new.

A recent story on Salem-News.com details the plight of the soldier and Marine and the role of a contractor known as Deloitte that they say unduly influenced both the investigation of the military court proceedings and their outcome. Can the United States government quit gazing at its navel and get on with winning this war, please?

Blame Rumsfeld and Bush (why so many here revere Rummy is beyond me). Without them none of our soldiers would ever have been persecuted like this. People would be shocked to learn how many innocent French civilians (not to mention Germans) were killed by U.S. troops during WWII. Not a single man was ever charged. This is war. Nasty things happen. But you don't treat your own men like criminals. It doesn't help that the military is now filled with scumbag JAGs and lawyers who must be Clinton holdovers, and who see the U.S. as the enemy. But the overration to Abu Ghraib, the multiple prosecutions, are all because Bush and Rumsfeld permitted it to happen. It is disgusting and must stop.

In WWII we purposely and rightly bombed, firebombed and nuked civilian populations. Millions killed. The brave pilots and crews are still held in high esteem.

Fast forward over 60 years. We put our young Marines and soldiers in high pressure, near impossible urban combat situations for several years against non-uniformed combatants who blend in with the local population. One killed.

There is something really wrong here.

Amen to your post. Bush and Rumsfeld weren't even man enough to kill Al Sadr, but they persecuted dozens of our brave fighting men, and bent way over to the MSM over the trivialities at Abu Ghraib.

What would you have done?

What is happening here is a coldly calculated attack on our military by the “Loyal” opposition. If President Bush acts to circumvent the military justice system he would be portrayed as destroying the rule of law, if he does nothing and hopes justice will be done he is attacking for allowing injustice to occur. It is a double edged sword and it is wielded by the press and people like John Murtha.

Once Murtha said that Our Marines had killed in cold blood there had to be a trial, no other way could their names be cleared then to have a trial in which the accusations could be examined and dissected. But more importantly this crucible of justice our marines have had to endure has proven that they are under fire from within the very organizations which are charged with seeking not their convictions by whatever means but charged with revealing the truth and nothing but the truth in all these cases.

The Actions of the NCIS in these cases regrading our Marines have been laid bare in a court room and those actions are as devious as any political muckrakers have ever been.

Those individuals that have abused the powers given to them will now have to answer for what they have done with them.

I wonder if the rads have any idea how many military personnal with combat experience will be returned to civilian life after we finish up in Iraq?
It won’t be the conservatives who they will be wanting to even the score with.

What makes you think he even disagrees with this? I've never heard him say word one about any of it, nor has Rumsfeld.

Agreed. But why assume Bush disagrees and just doesn't want to say anything? If he disagrees and does not fire the overzealous prosecutor then he is weak or incompetent.

It’s called undue influence, Murtha can get away with it because he isn’t president.

Actually, a boat load of American servicemen were tried and convicted of rape and murder during the Second World War. In the European Theater, 70 Americans were executed for crimes against civilians, 18 in Great Britain and 52 on the European continent.
