The more Fred DOESN'T commit the more I lean toward Duncan Hunter. I really like what he says.
My oldest son and I went to a Ron Paul event a week ago and I was really disappointed. I knew he was against the war, but during his address that's about all he ranted on. At an after event party at a microbrewery I got to speak with his campaign manager and came away thinking he was a...oh let me be kind...overstressed/out of reality kinda guy.

"[The Chinese are] taking hundreds of billions of dollars more than we're taking from them. I'll tell you what I'm worried about ladies and gentlemen, and one reason I'm running for the Presidency of the United States: I don't want to see a time when our trade deficit is so huge, and we've sent so much of our industrial base offshore, that we're worried about our men and women in uniform someday looking at those same weapons systems that we've financed coming back across the battlefield at our men and women in uniform. I'm going to stop that."

If there were many people coming to the straw poll undecided, Mr. Hunter should have received a huge swing in his favor based on that speech. He was outstanding. If he's going to have a break out moment when he goes from an also-ran to the Republican nominee for the presidency, this speech could be that moment.

That really depends on what they're looking for. My biggest concern is those who want a republican no matter what it costs us. In these days of the GOP chasing the democrats to the left, some are willing to pay A lot.

In these days of the GOP chasing the democrats to the left, some are willing to pay A lot. I share your concern, but the point is that Mr. Hunter spoke as someone who could win. In the past, I've sometimes seen and heard him speak and had a sense of him as the guy who knows that he's right but also knows that he can't win. In this speech, he comes across as the guy who looks in the mirror every morning and sees the next president of the United States because he knows that the American people will make the right choice. I'm not saying that this speech is going to swing the whole campaign, but I had more confidence in him while watching this speech than I've had at any point in the campaign.

I saw Duncan last Monday night at our central committee meeting. He is the only candidate who is clear on the problems posed by China.
