The infallible Washington Times reports that up for sale is one of the most famous scenes of infantilism in the 20th century, "Woodstock." Actually, what is on the block is the late Max Yasgur's New York farm, 38 acres of which were used for the 1969 Woodstock music festival that hagiographers for the "1960s Generation" have ever since boomed as a pivotal event in American history. Such rock singers as Jimi Hendrix and Richie Havens got together before a stupefied crowd of some 500,000 eternal children to sing of peace, and freedom, and mind-numbing substances, even the most feeble of which have now been shown to be extremely deleterious to intellect and spirit. Better it would be to inhale Marlboros than to fool with the proscribed substances that eventually killed or demented many of the singers and attendees in that famous field.

As for "peace and freedom," wars have continued and the specific war that the troubadours of Woodstock had in mind ended only when our Democratic-controlled Congress broke an American pledge to send support to embattled South Vietnamese forces. The North Vietnamese communists beat them. .... Drunk and disorderly rockers never pacified any region I know of, and many have lived irritable and belligerent lives, leaving children and other loved ones in a hell of a mess. ........... As I have been noting of late, the aging 1960s generation -- divided as it has always been by its left-wing and right-wing -- is now facing its political swan song. The Republicans and the Democrats will probably nominate members of this generation to battle in 2008 one more time. Now the face-off is on again, probably with Hillary opposing Rudy.

I could not get the full article to download. Rudy is far from locking down the nomination. I don’t like some of Rudy’s positions, in particular, I wish he was for the FairTax, but few politicians are for it. However, Rudy has leadership, and would be competent. Bush, I give credit for his philosophy, except for Immigration, but frankly, competence could be improved upon. For some reason, Romney reminds me too much of Bush. McCain is well, forget it. Thompson is still out of it, and loosing ground.
It isn’t over since the first primary is in five months, but I do think the GOP needs to be prepared to get behind whoever the nominee might be.
ALL the DEMS are frightening. I watched them on TV before the labor crowd. They have moved so far to the left that they need to all put on hammer and sickles.

I actually see Fred Thompson as the Republicans Howard Dean. So much hype, but little substance. He also tried to corral the internet as his primary campaign appeal. It worked for a while, yet faded when the spotlight was put upon him. The real difference is that the DNC did a lot to promote Kerry over Dean, he was that years Bob Dole if you will. It was Kerrys "time". My perception could be off, but I don't see Fred Thompson living up to the hype that the internet, grass root supporters (which I am in awe of) expect of him. He needs to do more than put out policy papers on the web in order for the primary voters to get a sense of him, and that may change once he finally gets in the race, but as of today he, personally, does not seem to have the enthusiasm needed to stay the front runner.

As an aside, it will be interesting to see if Fred Thompson would actually invest his personal money (as Kerry had to do when the end looked near) to be the nominee if that is what it takes. Only time will tell, but I just read that Iowa was looking at moving up it's caucus to before Christmas so it could retain it's first in the nation standing.

No thanks. If “we” nominate Rudy, I’ll be working for his defeat. Better one Liberal party than two. A GOP with Rudy at the helm deserves to be atomized - just annihilated. Better to blow the thing up and start over for 2012.

When the taxes were hiked 10 yrs ago or so, I switched to “Screamin’ Eagles”. Now I buy tubes and loose tobacco. I almost was able to quit, and I’m aiming to do that. Congratulations to you on leaving a bad habit :)

As for the topic of this thread, I will vote for anyone against Hillary. Whoever is running against her gets my vote. I prefer Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo.

Thats all true. While Guilani may get anti-Hillary votes, the RAT base will certainly be working overtime to keep the Congress in place. Putting the red states into play is important, but I see Rudy’s past personal baggage becoming a real can of worms if he is the nominee - people are going to dislike him (though perhaps not like they dislike Hillary) and that will decrease his impact in the red states.

The biggest problem with the ‘08 cycle is the lack of ideas I am seeing from both parties. If we agree that there are huge issues facing the nation, I cannot in good conscience not vote at all. That said, Rudy in the White House is very bad for social conservatives, and, moreover, any flaws that turn up in his tenure will be laid at the GOP doorstep. If you think George Bush sold us down the river, you ain’t seen nothing yet, especially if the RATs retain Congress. Rudy’s biggest pull will be his position on the war. That really leaves only a handful of realistic options -
- Nominate someone who is more conservative and hope that things swing to the right as the election gets closer. This could happen with the war, but I think the softer economy will be a big factor this time around, and the GOP will get blamed for this. I do not see Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, or my personal favorite so far, Mike Huckebee, beating the Clinton RAT media machine. The swing vote is too volatile...
- Nominate Rudy and hope a GOP Congress can keep him in line. I am frankly not expecting this of the GOP party regardless of who has the majority; the GOP has become too focus-group and popularity driven to remain anything but DEM lite. Sad but true.
- Vote 3rd party on principle, let Hillary assume the throne, and figure that she will hamstrung by scandels by 2010 (this is very possible based on everything we already know about her dealings). Then, elect a big enough majority in the Congress to keep the country from falling apart. This is the riskiest thing to do, but may end up being the only practical solution.

The truth is, I am usually optimistic about where the nation is going, but the venom and insanity from both the political left and the judiciary activists make this a very difficult time to not think things are beyond the point of return.
