Support Hunter, because he’s the best for our country.
If you support the strongest CONSERVATIVE candidate, and he doesn’t win in the primaries (but he can win because he has momentum on his side), you can still vote for whoever in the General Election.
Not one of the issues I mentioned has anything to do with China, WTO or NAFTA. Those are separate issues. Hunter’s record on spending is weak. The groups mentioned above have a solid record on shining the light on excessive government spending.

So was John F. Kennedy’s, but he was not considered a conservative. He understood that you could grow the economy by cutting taxes. A growing economy means more money to spend on government directed social engineering. It is the SPENDING part that I am bringing up now. I never said Hunter was bad on taxes. I am strongly opposed to excessive government spending because it is indicative on a mindset that sees government as a top means of socially engineering society from the top down.
The early 20th Century conservative movement in America, above all, opposed this “Progressive” view of the role of government in shaping human affairs. They saw government as an institution based on the legal use of force and insisted on keeping its role VERY limited. People, for the most part, were left to shape society through voluntary interactions in “Civil Society”. This is a “bottom up” approach with government limited to the role of protecting people against fraud and violence. This was also the brand of conservatism promoted by Goldwater, Reagan and the Freshman Class of 1994, particularly in the House. With Hunter’s record on spending in recent years, there is no way I can see him as representing this tradition. I would not mind to see him in a defense or security related position, like Secretary of Defense, but he is not the leader I am looking for to return the GOP and America to the Goldwater/Reagan brand of conservatism.
National Taxpayers Union and the Hair club for Growth both use “free trade” votes in their weighing process, if I’m not mistaken.
I listed many of the votes they used, yet you have not addressed even one of them. Instead, you have gone off on a tangent over issues that were not even brought up. It seems that you are unwilling to defend the votes in question because they are indefensible. I could understand it if you said that you support him despite his big spending because of other issues, but quit trying to ignore that he is a big spender.
He is rated middling by these groups because of his constant promotion of INCREASED defense spending and INCREASED border spending and his PRO-SOVEREIGNTY votes to keep us out of stupid trade deals like NAFTA. If you backed those votes out of the equation, he would be solidly in the upper crust. That’s just the way it is.
I emailed the NTU asking for their list of 2005 and 2006 counted votes and how they are weighted. I got no response. When you get that info, then get back to me.

I listed the issues that have ME convinced that he is a big spender, yet you have failed to address even one. Even factoring out trade and votes for military spending, the votes I listed would qualify him as a big spender by themselves. He has voted for some big domestic spending programs that even the supposed RINO McCain has opposed. How can someone with a spending record worse than McCain’s be presented as the most conservative candidate in the race? Quit trying to change the subject.
He can defend his prescription drug bill vote himself, I don’t agree with it. All of 10 republicans voted agaisnt it though. He stands by that vote, so don’t ask me to justify it, ask him.
