One has to ask who is conducting the poll and who are they talking to?

Multiple reasons.
1. People aren’t informed of candidate’s positions.
2. People want to be behind a winner.
3. People believe the WOT is the #1 overriding issue.
4. People want to be part of the ‘pop culture’ type candidate.
5. People believe that Rudy will govern as a conservative.

From real conservatives I talk to who are behind Rudy, #2 & #3 are the main reasons.

We shouldn’t be so quick to assume everyone knows Rudy’s positions and past because of what people say here.. informed conservative voters, of whom look at the whole package versus one issue are probably less than 10% of the Right’s voting block..

That’s an average, and several off the polls didn’t have Thompson featured.

He has given the impression of being a hero from 9-11 and they also have no alternative they find acceptable at this time...

When Fred gets in (2011?) maybe their views might shift some.

Here’s a little quip from Wikipedia......
Rudolph Giuliani was born in Brooklyn, New York, the only child of working-class parents Harold Angel Giuliani and Helen C. D’Avanzo, both children of Italian immigrants[11] The family was Roman Catholic and its extended members included police officers, firefighters, and criminals.[12] Harold Giuliani had trouble holding a job and had been convicted of felony assault and robbery and served time in Sing Sing;[13] after his release he served as a Mafia enforcer for his brother-in-law Leo D’Avanzo, who ran an organized crime operation involved in loan sharking and gambling at a restaurant in Brooklyn.[14]
.
Now can this Man (sometimes dressed a woman) really be President of the United States. Looks kina like Joe Kennedy incarnate.

We don’t need his kind down here. And from all the polls I have seen Thompson is either leading him or in a dead heat.

Bye bye JulieAnnie

Because the southern repubs be looking for a candidate
that can best Hillary in Nov 08 cuz they know Thompson,
McCain, Romney and Paul are the 4 stooges.

Sometimes you must be pragmatic.

I live in the South about as South as you can get. Southerners are above all patriots. They send more as a percentage of their sons and daughters to the Armed Forces. Their concerns are about the War on Terrorism and support for the troops. Above all, they want a strong leader who will support those values even if they have to wince a little on some social issues. Their Nationa Security concerns trump everything else. Read into that what you may.

Maybe for the same reasons that the south gave us Clinton (Bill) and AlGore (not to mention LBJ and a whole host of wacky senators and congresscritters). Even the south isn’t immune from the disease of electoral stupidity, even if they do have a slightly stronger resistance to it than us yankees.

The political observers now are a very few and very far between. If politics were significant to people we would have less paris hilton (do people even realize that paris is a BOYS name?), lindsy lohan self destruction, and more what positions guiliani has in comparison to hillary?

The debates are a fraud. A fake, a dog and pony show.

The democrats SHALL pick (or have picked for them) Hillary Clinton.

The republican debates have the MSM annointing Rudy Rhodham Clinton because the MSM wants a two NYC election.

A thompson win desecrats the holy temple of CNN.

Because most Southerners probably know very little about him.

NONE of his opponents appear to be attacking the guy on his record and views.
