We don’t need his kind down here. And from all the polls I have seen Thompson is either leading him or in a dead heat.

Bye bye JulieAnnie

“Becasue it is currently a name popularity contest, that’s why.”

That’s not saying much for SC voters. Not that I’m disagreeing.

Although I’m leaning towards Mitt right now, I have to admit that not only would Rudy probably clobber Shrillary in the South, (which is where Pubbies are going to win anyway),he would also have a very good chance of beating her in some Blue states such as PA, NJ and CT.

Should he actually take one of these states and FL, the game is over.

When you do a serious analysis of the Electoral map, I don’t think at this point, that the man can be beaten by any of the Dems

“. Does anybody really think that Hillary Clinton has a good chance of carrying any southern state?”

Three: West Virginia, Missouri and Arkansas.

If Rudy wins a few NE states like Maine and NJ and NH, that would cover for not winning those three states.

But I think people need to realize that Prez Bush has seriously damaged the Republican Party in the South to the point that mobs of people are switching from “Republican” to “Independent”.

This isn’t the South of 2004 folks.

Because the southern repubs be looking for a candidate
that can best Hillary in Nov 08 cuz they know Thompson,
McCain, Romney and Paul are the 4 stooges.

Sometimes you must be pragmatic.

We probably won’t have to see that. If Rudy is nominated Hillary will be the next president. V.P.? She is not close to anyone. Maybe Barbara Boxer.

I live in the South about as South as you can get. Southerners are above all patriots. They send more as a percentage of their sons and daughters to the Armed Forces. Their concerns are about the War on Terrorism and support for the troops. Above all, they want a strong leader who will support those values even if they have to wince a little on some social issues. Their Nationa Security concerns trump everything else. Read into that what you may.

“I am in the south... and when push comes to shove... we will go for Rudy over Hillary.”

Why does a Pro Life candidate lead Romney, Thompson & McCain? I’m not tryin’ to be wise I genuinely am curious.

Which is why we should all support Hillary. Victory over principles, and all that.

At least she can WIN!!!

Maybe for the same reasons that the south gave us Clinton (Bill) and AlGore (not to mention LBJ and a whole host of wacky senators and congresscritters). Even the south isn’t immune from the disease of electoral stupidity, even if they do have a slightly stronger resistance to it than us yankees.

True - Duncan Hunter -the real conservative.

It frustrates me that the party is so slow to recognize this.

You are exactly correct when it comes to the ‘heart’ of the South, which, in my opinion, reflects the heart of ‘fly over country’ all over the US.. however, there is a big stake in the heart of all ‘fly over country’, it is the pop culture mentality of population centers. If you look back at the infamous red/blue voting map, you’ll notice that while 85% of counties represented are red, the 15% of blue counties that are population centers (think NYC, LA, Atlanta, etc) can swing the entire states electors. In marketing, its common knowledge that population centers are the easiest to ‘sell’ to because they are more susceptible to group think.

If you can make a candidate trendy in population centers, you can control that center and the popularity will spread.
Even the ‘average joe’ rural southerner isn’t as isolated from this group think any longer.

We CAN NOT take for granted that the fly over population will continue to follow us.. we must continue to fight and educate, even those who we think are in our corner.

People identifying themselves as Democrats is the lowest in 10 years. Where do you think they went? Democrat approval rating is at 12 to 14%. Looks like some serious damage to the Democrat party.

I assume you meant Pro-Choice.

The answer is because he dodges the issue, and when asked, his campaign folks deliberately mislead people into thinking he is either Pro-Life (by saying he’s “personally Pro-Life”), or that he would effectively govern as a Pro-Life President.

In other words, Democrat tactics - dodge, mislead, deliberately leave false impressions. Then have guys like Vitter and Olson speak on your behalf, making promises and assumptions you can disavow, while claiming “misunderstanding.”

Rudy is all about fooling SoCons into voting for him. Which is why he’s a disaster waiting to happen. Once the media gets their two GOP Pro-Choice, Social Liberal as a safety net, they’ll start peeling away SoCons from the GOP base by letting everyone know they were duped by the GOP.

But hey, who needed Conservatism anyway? If Rudy doesn’t win the election, we’ll all be under Sharia law inside of two years - the whole entire world. Go Rudy!!!

Not dissing Duncan here (as I agree he is one of the few good Conservatives in the race) but, when the reader doesn't understand your story, don't blame the reader, blame the author. Duncan hasn't sold himself to the people. Winning a presidential election is a lot more than preaching to the choir, you must sell conservative values to the entire country, especially those on the fence or who normally wouldn't give you the time of day.
