"My religion is for me and how I live my life," he declared. "I don't impose all my faiths and beliefs on you." For example, he noted that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints doesn't approve of booze and that he doesn't drink. But he won't be pushing for a new constitutional amendment banning alcohol......
(US News) For more than a year, there has been talk inside Mitt Romney's presidential campaign (mittromney.com) that the GOP candidate would give a JFK-ish speech explaining his religion--he's a Mormon--and how it would or wouldn't affect his presidency.
Well, it wasn't what they had in mind, but an unscripted, passionate, and argumentative Romney let loose last week during some off-air discussions with Iowa's WHO Radio host Jan Mickelson. It was caught by the radio studio's cameras. It's must-watching and hearing for anybody interested in the issue, as Romney, like JFK before him, brushed aside any concerns that he would let his religion rule his administration.
"My religion is for me and how I live my life," he declared. "I don't impose all my faiths and beliefs on you." For example, he noted that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints doesn't approve of booze and that he doesn't drink. But he won't be pushing for a new constitutional amendment banning alcohol.
His staffers thought it was so good that they posted it on a YouTube page (youtube.com/watch?v=-G9hydflwEQ). Campaign spokesman Kevin Madden tells me that "it shows Governor Romney at his best: tough, passionate, confident in his convictions and engaging. It could be titled MittTV Unplugged." Madden adds that the reaction has been good so far.
"Once we reviewed the interview in full, we thought that it showed Governor Romney in an unvarnished setting that folks would be interested in seeing. Judging from the reaction, supporters and potential supporters are really responding in a positive manner."
GO STALK SOMEONE ELSE.
Well, minus the mistresses. ...and the Democrat party. ...and the Kennedys.
lol. Alright your point is taken.
Come on Romney is not that stupid..
But I have to say it's funny that you say you aren't hostile..but you make this accusation? Who are you, to accuse me of that? Again...why the hostility with you? If this is your form of debate....you've lost before you've started.
This IS a message board site. People have discussions and back and forth debates.
If you give forth opinions..and not think they won't be/could be challenged..then you maybe are in the wrong forum.
Really, I'm a nice guy...But once again, "words mean things" and you've said some things that deserve direct answers, to direct questions. That's what happens in debate/erotern.
Maybe you don't or can't see it that way. Fine.
But don't accuse me of something serious...like stalking you. Don't do it again. And frankly if I was you...I'd apologize...because little sister, that was out of line.
lol!
i agree.
boy, whatta dud jfk was.
and we have to live with the myth of camelot and
teddy 2.
As a Christian, you're opposed to voting for most Christians, but you'll vote for a Mormon because he's so Christian??
Yikes.
I await YOUR full admission, followed by an apology, neither of which I highly suspect, will ever be forthcoming.
Yikes.
LOL, that really IS what rface said! At least he didn't say he'd vote for Mitt because he has the best hair.
I like his Christian attitude and I like his hair too.
I like his Christian attitude and I like his hair too.
And...the Christian attitudes of the Independent Christians, Baptists, and Roman Catholics don't meet with your approval, and I suppose their hair doesn't either.
That sounds like what I am accused of all the time because I don't like Romney's Christian attitude....bigoted.
Mormons have nice hair. They have good teeth too.....probably because they don’t drink coffee, or smoke cigs.
Great reasons to vote for one for President of the United States, the most powerful man in the world!
.........
Well, if you insist....actually, I think that Mr. Kucinich and Mitt have comparable hair, but Mrs. Kucinich has it all over Ann with that beautiful head of flowing red hair!
Mrs. Kucinich is beautiful! of course that has nothing to do with what kind of President her husband will be.
If we are going to elect Presidents based upon the appearance of the first lady, then this country is in bigger trouble than we thought!
We keep trying to point this out that our nation has been in a downward spiral, so that “Conservative” does not mean what it meant in 1950 by any stretch. It is probably true that Mr. Romney is LESS conservative than JFK in several important respects.
This is why those of us who maintain a biblicist Christian heritage (I believe I am still within the subject of the thread here) often cast our eyes to to third parties to check them out. Republicans our age (50s) and younger, especially those raised in the government school systems, do not have a sense of history, and know only the use of the word “conservative” from the 1970s to the present.
One very big reason that we are in a downward spiral because the personal liberties that today’s “conservatives” want to defend have a different moral motivation than did defending personal liberties had in generations gone by.
Now, it seems, defense of personal liberties is only for personal gain, amassed wealth and sensual gratification. There’s not much deeper than that today in the land among “conservatives.” “Leave me alone so that I — the big I — can live my life without God, without morality, without my neighbor trying to express his faith to me — and so forth.”
I will be watching to see a White House without alcohol, should Mr. Romney reach the goal. Now, I do believe that will have a positive affect. If I were president, I would have 100% of the alcohol removed from the White House (including the kitchens) by way of the sewer.
yes. She is quite a looker. No wonder Mr Kucinich has that smile glued into his face.
Mr. Romney's religion also prohibits the drinking of coffee or tea and the use of tobacco products. If you had the same beliefs, would you remove coffee and tea from the White House?
BTW, it has been posted here on FR that Governor Romney served alcohol in the Governor's mansion during his tenancy.
I also must add the Ms. Romney also has an attractive appeal....she just doesn’t have that “sex kitten” look that Mr Kucinich must have been looking for
