SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Barry Bonds became the most prolific home-run hitter in Major League Baseball history Tuesday night, slugging his 756th in front of more than 43,052 hometown fans to pass Henry Aaron. Bonds' record-setting homer came in the fourth inning to give the Giants a 5-4 lead over the Washington Nationals. Bonds hit a 3-2 pitch from Washington's Mike Bacsik deep to center field. The game was delayed by a standing ovation for Bonds, whose late father Bobby was a Giants player, coach and front-office employee.... Bonds also holds the season record for home runs with 73 in 2001.
The 43-year-old Bonds, who has spent 21 years in the majors, had tied Aaron at 755 on Saturday in the Giants' 3-2 loss in San Diego. Aaron's record had stood since 1976, when he retired after 22 years in the majors.

One could say the same thing about coffee. But neither are actual performance enhancers -- unlike anabolic steroids they don't make one stronger, faster, and quicker. .....and their effects are temporary.
Not to the bozos defending Barry on this forum. Besides, it's a worthless argument when even those people chanting "But you can't proooove that he did it" themselves believe that he knowingly used steroids. You believe he did it, everyone on this forum believes it, even dogs know that the guy's a juicer. Furthermore, as one of the previous posters pointed out, Barry has admitted to using steroids, he just lied about how much, how often, and whether he did it knowingly.
Seeing all of these posters coming out to defend this obnoxious, loathsome disgrace to the sport makes me wonder if this is some kind of psychological preparation for when Hillary takes the White House.
I have no idea whether Bonds has used steroids or not, but these stats don’t line up with your claims:

He’s had 7 seasons in the 40s and 73 in 2001. Other than that, his other 14 seasons have been pretty ordinary. He’s in his 22nd year. Longevity is a huge factor.
Are you saying men cannot bulk up without steroids?
He did it. Good. Now can we all turn our attention to something else, like the pennant races, which will likely be pretty tight in both leagues?
Pro sports are meaningless now, which is why I don’t spend money on them. It’s all about chemical enhancement, not talent or skill.
And an arm guard that let him crowd the plate like no other batter in the history of the game....
let alone do testing - of which Barry has never failed a single one). Hes got the record without the asterisk attached IHMO.
Bonds said that he used the clear, “not knowing” what he was putting into his body, if you believe he had no clue what he was putting into his body you are awful naive.
The trouble with this ?record? is that he has made it impossible for someone, who has not used steroids, to top it.
“And an arm guard that let him crowd the plate like no other batter in the history of the game....”
Why isn’t Bonds at the top of the list in being hit by pitches? He’s at the top in walks but not being hit by pitches. That record belongs to Craig Biggio of the Houston Astros who recently passed Don Baylor.
Neither does Blind Hero Worship. Bonds Admitted, under oath, to using the clear. If you are so in love with Barriod to believe that an elite athlete doesn't know everything he puts into his body then you are not a thinking person.
“The trouble with this ?record? is that he has made it impossible for someone, who has not used steroids, to top it.”
Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees will probably hit 800 if he stays healthy. A-Rod is already at 500 and he just turned 32. Bonds is 42. Rodriguez could hit 60 this year.
Is it true he refuses to give autographs to white kids?
First 7 years with the Pirates 176 HR’s, less than 30 a season.
I don’t know about Bonds, but I know this about me. When I was 21 I was slender with no jowls or double chins. I now have some jowls, and bit of a double chin, and my muscle mass has increased tremendously due to heavy physical labor.
If my 21 year old self showed up my current 50 year old self could kick his ass providing I did it quickly due to less stamina.
I’ve never taken a steroid in my life.
I still remember where I was when I heard that he was traded.
It was on that day that I (1) learned pro sports is a business and always has been a business; and (2) lost a tremendous amount of interest in the Reds. I was literally heartbroken.
His ex girl friend also said he went through horrific mood changes and had acne up and down his back, not not mention that his hat size grew 3 sizes.
This juiced up dud wont make it to 60, I'd be willing to wager.
I’m with you! Below is a post I made on another thread...thought you might appreciate it! ;>)
Flame on, but I was there, and it was AWESOME! Personally I see Bonds derangement syndrome as similar to Bush derangement syndrome. The press has made a decision to pillory both of them, and we are expected to just take the press at their word. I dont accept the press assessment of either of them.
Performance enchament talk, talk of stupidity its all the same to me. I believe what I see and some of what I hear. In Bonds case I have watched him since his high school days at Serra in San Mateo. The man has always had talent. What he may or may not have used, you cant take away the fact that he is an awesome athlete. The press has chosen to make him the poster boy for steroid use. He has never failed a drug test, and what he may or may not have used was not illegal at the time it was used. Bud Selig turned a blind eye in the early days, and now wants to use Bonds as his whipping boy. So be it. But, I choose to believe my lying eyes over the presss words. What I have seen over the years is AWESOME.
Flame on. ;>)
Great post - great analogy. BDS reigns supreme on both FR and DU. ;)
Could it be that most people grew up when baseball was, "America's sport?" The home run record was a very important milestone then and, now it is sullied.
