Can't say we haven't seen this before: Scott Thomas Beauchamp, a writer for the New Republic, has recanted his tales of American military savagery according to the Weekly Standard (h/t Powerline):
The Weekly Standard has learned from a military source close to the investigation that Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp--author of the much-disputed "Shock Troops" article in the New Republic's July 23 issue as well as two previous "Baghdad Diarist" columns--signed a sworn statement admitting that all three articles he published in the New Republic were exaggerations and falsehoods--fabrications containing only "a smidgen of truth," in the words of our source.
Separately, we received this statement from Major Steven F. Lamb, the deputy Public Affairs Officer for Multi National Division-Baghdad:
An investigation has been completed and the allegations made by PVT Beauchamp were found to be false. His platoon and company were interviewed and no one could substantiate the claims.
According to the military source, Beauchamp's recantation was volunteered on the first day of the military's investigation. So as Beauchamp was in Iraq signing an affidavit denying the truth of his stories, the New Republic was publishing a statement from him on its website on July 26, in which Beauchamp said, "I'm willing to stand by the entirety of my articles for the New Republic using my real name."
TOPICS: Foreign Affairs
KEYWORDS: beauchamp; newrepublic; scottbeauchamp; scottthomas; tnr
Scott Thomas Beau-CHUMP. And the other chumps will be The New Republic editors who are going to have to publicly eat crow on this after standing up for Beauchamp's "credibility."

If only alternate media were around 30 years ago. Frauds like Beauchamp would not have been able to make a national political career - even almost become President - on such Anti-American lies.

How pathetic is Beauchamp? He isn’t even as entertaining as Jesse McBeth, legendary S.E.A.L. and part-time Wendy’s Breakfast Associate...

If TNR is an honorable publication, they will print a very public retraction and a huge apology to our men and women in uniform...............but I’m not holding my breath.........

If TNR, CBS/ABC/NBC/CNN, Dan Rather, NYTimes, WashPost were honorable they would not be savaged by the New Media so regularly and the past 50 years would look very different....just think of timely exposure of these Soviet apologist/operatives; Walter Duranty, Harry Hopkins, Dexter White, Alger Hiss...and many more Commie moles plaguing the Western Free World.
Better late than never, there’s a lot more work to do!

As long as national news was in print form only and TV served up just 30 minutes of local “news” at the end of the day, people could be manipulated as the powers saw fit. As soon as the Internet became a household fixture, they have gone down, down, down. Like prices from a monopolistic company when faced with actual competition, they will have to come to the table with fair price, else people will not buy their “product”.........

His reports sound much like the lies perpetrated by John Kerry who compared US troops in Viet Nam to the ravaging hoards of Genghis Khan.

The New Republic has no journalistic integrity. Their readers are all drooling mental retards. That anyone with a brain would take anything they print seriously, after Steven Glass exposed to the world what kind of tabloid trash their editors are, is a joke. This is just business as usual for the New Republic.
