Former CIA Director: Terrorist Strike Within U.S. Real Threat
Newsmax ^ | 8/6/07 | Kenneth R. Timmerman

Posted on 08/06/2007 9:19:41 PM PDT by bnelson44

Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey tells NewsMax in an exclusive interview that terrorists could strike the American homeland — possibly with a weapon of mass destruction — this summer or early fall.

He also warns that if Iran fails to comply with international efforts to stop its nuclear weapons program, the U.S. will have no other option than to bomb it.

"I think the threat of a serious attack in the next few months is very real," Woolsey said. A terrorist strike with a dirty bomb or with biological weapons was "a real possibility." Woolsey's comments echo those of FBI Director Robert Mueller, who told NewsMax in May that al-Qaida's paramount goal is clear: to detonate a nuclear device that would kill hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Inasmuch as anything is always possible, what is the meaning of this article...as a former spook, does he still get secret briefings? Why is he coming forth with this information instead of officials currently in the spook world?

Anything in particular we need to quake about, or should we just quake in general?

“He also blasted those in the State Department who believe we can convince the Iranians through negotiations to stop their nuclear programs. “I’ve never thought there’s a chance in hell of that,” he said.”

I agree

I agree as well, but I get the feeling that the Sec State is talking to placate the libs when they say we should talk before fighting.

Woolsey also believes that Iraqi intelligence participated in the OKC bombing: an act of war, an act of terrorism, on American soil, and with massive loss of life.

"This fascinating product of Jayna Davis's near-decade of brave, thorough, and dogged investigative reporting effectively shifts the burden of proof to those who would still contend that McVeigh and Nichols executed the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing without the support of a group or groups from the Middle East."

R. James Woolsey Director of Central Intelligence, 1993-95 (Source)

Despite all the screaming at Bush about how Iraq was no threat, he has said NOTHING about it. At this point, it almost appears as if he's taking a deliberate dive and the Republican Party with him.

Woolsey should head the CIA again. Unlike many in there now, he gets it.

Woolsey: Well, I think the threat of a serious attack in the next few months is very real. It's what...Chertoff said about his gut feeling.

A lot of people made fun of that, but I think that was a senior government official trying to communicate something without saying here's my evidence...

I agree. Chertoff was trying to tell us there is evidence a real attack is coming, but he obviously can't give any details because that would expose their sources.

I think we need more threats on other Governments that any mass-destruction weapon attack on the US or Israel will result in retaliation against all nations that condone such actions.

You’re either with us, or against us. In the world of proliferation there can be no middle ground. And at the first sign of attack, there must be swift and immediate retaliation that puts fear in multiple governments and terrorist communities.

There is a weapons of mass destruction attack coming. Its just a matter of when. Warnings from former officials can delay the inevitable.

When they finally do attack us, how silly the democrats will appear.

I didn’t see a word in the article where he said we need to close the border and find out who is here. The number of people allowed to just come in is shooting ourselves in the foot.

The democrats would just blame the administration for inadequate intelligence and anti-terrorism funding if there were an attack from WMD.

This little merry-go-round will not end in my lifetime, and we will only become more selfish, power-hungry, and hardened in our hearts as time goes on. Everything will be politicized.

What is needed is a way for the public to be educated about real threats...though I know secrets must be kept. It ultimately boils down to the press doing its job and reporting the news that is really there already without an agenda...unless young people go into journalism for the joy of seeking truthful facts to share with the electorate, there is a clouded future for the USA.

Thus we are left with former officials opining on vague threats that may or may not happen at an an earlier or later date, while telling us how important all of this is...meanwhile, the other side of the fence ignores the information and talks about pop stars shaving heads and getting drunk.

An we are all to blame for listening to the latter and not the former.

Shame on us all for letter the light of this great national idea fade.

“When they finally do attack us, how silly the democrats will appear.”

Nope. They’ve already planned for that scenario. It will be due to Bush’s ineptness and by electing Dems, the ineptness will disappear and we will have a safer America.

As far as This Conservative is concerned, Woolsey is damaged goods and untrustworthy—the price he pays for having served under the Rapist-Priapist.

At this point, it almost appears as if he's taking a deliberate dive and the Republican Party with him.

The pendulum must swing back and forth. It cannot be allowed to stop on one side for too long.

What will be very interesting in the future is how the leftist Islamic Fascism Deniers will react when Islamic attacks continue to occur even though Hillary is in charge. Are they going to treat Hillary similar to how they treated LBJ ? Probably not. The Deniers may be forced back into blaming the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy that Hillary will no doubt be moaning and droning about. Will she blame future terrorist attacks as coming from the right wing again ? If these deniers can create fantastical conspiracies that Bush carried out 911, what would stop them from blaming any attacks that occur during a Hillary presidency on the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy ? After all, why would Islamic Fascists be mad at a Democratic President ?

I can distinctly remember the talking heads on the MSM networks stating the following as they showed images of the burning World Trade Center Towers, 'this probably was not an attack from militias or right wing groups'.

Why would they attack us now? They are winning in the press and with the sheeple who dont understand. If “they” attacked now, it would reinvigorate the masses, and the politicians would have to follow.

“They” are not that stupid.

I do not believe Bush and Cheney will leave office with a nuclear Iran.
