FairTax front and center in GOP debate!
Americans For Fair Taxation ^ | August 6, 2008

Posted on 08/06/2007 7:24:50 PM PDT by Man50D

Dear FairTax supporters,

I hope each of you were able to watch yesterday morning’s GOP debate where the FairTax was one of the few domestic policy issues raised with the candidates. Our FairTax bus was prominently parked just outside the debate in front of a local theater with “FairTax” on the marquee! In the face of five of eight GOP candidates embracing the FairTax, because of our early primary strategy, our numerous rallies, and the growing visibility of the issue, ABC News’s top editors agreed with us in meetings over the past several weeks that the FairTax has become increasingly newsworthy. Not only did ABC ask the GOP candidates about the FairTax in the latest Iowa GOP debate (to an estimated audience of 33.2 million), but they put the FairTax logo, Web site, and key points of the plan on the screen while George Stephanopoulos defined the FairTax proposal to the audience and the presidential candidates (Click here to watch the FairTax clip). I can assure you, while they were off camera, some of the candidates looked extremely uncomfortable as they saw our logo flashed on the screen -- while others who support us looked gleeful. A big thanks goes out to ABC for their inclusion of the FairTax into the national debate.

This is yet another big step in the right direction, and our reports indicate that Washington, D.C. is abuzz with talk about the FairTax strength with the public and presidential politics! Such national coverage can serve, of course, as a powerful incentive to the public to learn more about the FairTax.

As stated during the debate, the FairTax is an extremely important issue in Iowa, and we need to make sure that we have significant presence at this week’s Iowa Straw Poll in Ames. We really need each and every one of you to help us make the Iowa FairTax rally a huge success and show the nation that our momentum continues to grow! Please click HERE to RSVP for next Saturday’s event. I can assure you that you will be grateful you made the trip.

MSM press? Wow.

Be careful how they talked about it. Fair Tax supporters will be blamed for any mistake ABC made in their showing/story. Wait and see.

Thanks Man50D for all the posts. I do BTW read all of them. I’m convinced that this will not pass our pathetic Congress (both houses). In short, it makes too much sense. Sadly! It would mean the holier than thou giving up power over us working folks I'm afraid. In the end, it's all about power.

As an accounting major, I still support this effort. I just don't see it passing. Sad.

Sounds great EXCEPT for being pegged at 23% - that is forking BS.

Try 10% and then I’ll be on board. 23% is reformed Socialist in disguise, I don’t care who thinks it’s great. It’s a European VAT tax.

And besides, do you really believe they will eliminate every tax they say they will? No way. Taxes = power. I don’t care who proposes it, it won’t happen. If we were locuky to get someone in who would, they’d have no support to do it from the Congress.

I wish the proponents much success-—but how many straw polls and tax policy fads have come and gone to oblivion?

Corrective tax policy has been championed by many—but the pols will never release the stranglehold on their prized ability to manipulate and punish and reward citizens via an onerous tax system.

It is just too much a part of the power structure—the crown jewel of ego, to ever expect reform.

You’re already paying 23% hidden in pass-thru federal taxes aka ‘embedded taxes’. I guess you want to keep paying that amount without knowing what you’re paying.

Oh please! Oh please! Don’t let me know how much I pay in taxes! Help me to stay ignorant! I don’t want to know! Save me from knowledge and awareness! Keep the taxes hidden! The FairTax will make me see reality and I just don’t want to know!

That’s why revolts happen. And one is coming....

http://www.gao.gov/cghome.htm

Read any of the Comptroller General’s first three listed presentations.

And arm yourself with this fact:

Since 1996 and before the GAO and CBO have known, have estimated, recalculated and reverified that it will take an 85% marginal tax rate to fund entitlements, government worker pensions and medical benefits.

The US Government is not unlike GM and Ford, both having been downgraded to junk for ‘legacy’ liabilities except the US Government has the Fed Reserve create $$$ from thin air (and inflation along with it) and stiffing the middle class taxpayer for the balance due.

So it’s high taxes or hyperinflation (Fed prints/creates $$$), take your pick.

And notice the dollar has already started its longterm descent as a result of an expanding old age demographic with not enough youngins coming in to take up the slack. And why aren’t babies being generated in sufficient numbers? Taxes, high taxes. Families can only afford so many.

We are watching the chickens come home to roost.

We’re screwed (if we don’t get our act together).

We're making progress in the need to eliminate the income tax and the IRS and return us to the tax system used for most of our country's history.

Only when the American people demand it, there will be reform. The income tax is a tool of socialist control over people's lives. Alan Keyes is credited with warning conservatives about its dangers. The idea of the government watching your bank account and being involved with every aspect of economic activity runs counter to the central idea of freedom. How much you make, where you make it and how you put away your money should be no one's business. The only time the government should enter the picture is when you spend it and even then a truly fair tax should tax you only one time. People do get it.

Sorry, but you need to read more. The Fairtax is not a VAT. The problem with people like you is the fear of change, not the details of the Fairtax, which by the way you suck in your knowledge of the Fairtax.

Having owned a biz, I know the pain of absorbing the compliance costs of tax policy that makes business the tax collector. The business must be compensated and protected from draconian bureaucrats.

My feelings of disgust for our Congress are particularly vile, these days. And I understand the sentiment you express. But take heart in this: Everyone I explain the FairTax to loves it. But after the initial euphoria they all say, as did you, “Yeah, but it’ll never pass”. So I ask them, if you have a candidate before you who supports the FairTax, and one who doesn’t, all other things being equal, which one do you vote for? The answer is always for the FairTax supporter. With this in mind, I’m thinking that the more people to whom I spread the news, the more support the program has. Because they all like it. Even a lot of libs!!! Eventually the FairTax will pass.

So, good for you that you maintain support even in pessimism. The more who do, the greater the chances we’ll have.

One man, one vote, one tax bill. That is if you believe everyone should be treated equally under the law.

Arm yourself with this fact:

The 23% rate is for the first year only. After the first year there would be a combined rate. A portion of the "sales tax" rate would "be determined by Social Security" bureaucrats. They would determine the rate every year without debate, a vote or veto.

The prebate would be an entitlement that would dwarf all others.

In addition to their "prebate", Social Security benefits would be increased by the amount of the 30% (not 23%) tax rate under the Fairtax.

The Fairtax classifies "any government" as a taxable employer and all wages salaries and benefits are subject to the 30% (not 23%) Fairtax...IOW "any overnment" payrolls and benefits would be increased by 30% (not 23%).

Were you saying something about needed tax rates?

Parroting rhetoric is fun but the details are in the bill, HR25. You really should read it sometime.

“Only when the American people demand it, there will be reform. The income tax is a tool of socialist control over people’s lives.”

All you wrote I agree with...to add...these taxes pay for things like entitlements to illegal aliens, the money is wasted, and misused.

A tax revolt was expected by our ‘Founding Fathers’ as a tool to fight a corrupt govt that at least eventually always occurs!

Cut back the taxes and they can’t support illegals, it’s that simple...

I and others have read HR 25. The difference is we understand it, you don’t.

Keep trying to creat doubt. You are actually doing a service as more and more people see through your shallow reasoning and flawed logic. You have been discredited so many times on these threads that most posters have given up responding to you as you continue to carry on specious arguments.

The FairTax will be tested, accepted and enacted as the Law of the Land. It will make history. Your precious Income tax will be dumped in a dark corner of history, never to be seen again.

The FairTax is the way the Constitution intended Americans to pay tax and the People will get back to that basic principle, whether you like it or not.
