MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say two Middle Eastern men arrested near a Navy base had several pipe bombs in their car.
Authorities say 24-year-old Ahmed Abda Sherf Mohamed and 21-year-old Yousef Samir Megahed were charged Monday with possession of an incendiary device.
An FBI spokeswoman says a joint state-federal investigation is under way to see if there was any terrorism connection but no link had been found yet. The Navy base is the site of a brig where enemy combatants have been held.
According to an affidavit with his arrest warrant, Mohamed admitted he made the pipe bombs from items he bought at Wal-Mart.
Defense attorney Dennis Rhoad says Mohamed and Megahed have a reason for having the devices, but he declined to comment further during their bond hearing.
Both are students at the University of South Florida.

I’m sure they had real good reasons.
Muslim remake of “Four Weddings and a Funeral”?
Obviously the guys were not planning on going fishing with the bombs so I can’t wait to see what comes out at the hearing.
LOL. I’ve always like the funerals caused by “work accidents” while these fools are making their fireworks.
Who were their references? Who guaranteed their tuition payment? What university was the one on an exchange program with? What has the experience been with exchange students in the past? Do these exchanges get approved by homeland security? Do these foreign students pay extra lucrative tuition? How many credits a semester does a student need to maintain his visa status? I could provide dozens more questions if I was a curious reporter getting paid. Unfortunately, there are no curious reporters any more. What a joke.
And Mohammed Atta had a reason for carrying a box cutter on a plane on 9/11.
Proceed, Mr. Rhoad...
Now we learn there were pipe bombs (as in more than one) and that Mohammad who put the bombs together was the civil engineering graduate student.
Put in Gitmo now.
Univ. of South Fla. was Sami Al Arian’s old college.
“Put in Gitmo now.”
No.
Yours truly,
President John Edwards
Oh yes!
I remember clearly, now, when I was in college I often had a legitimate need for pipe bombs.
Happened all the time.
Just saying.
I’ve never a reason to have a bomb. What good reasons would one have to have pipe bombs?
The lawyer’s a nice guy too... what do you expect..:^)

Right. That takes a lot of knowlege to do that with chemicals to make nitrates, chlorates, nitro and hydrazine from what you can buy in stores. And the lab glassware to do it. Let's find out some more. The chemicals needed are worse than some meth lab. Very poisonous things.
A box of potassium Nitrate
A pound of sugar
A gallon of gasoline
4 model rocket launchers
4 model rocket electrical ignitors
several lengths of PVC pipe including one stuffed with the potassiun nitrate/sugar mixture
