Lucky for me I have a Russian student who resembles Maria; a ballroom dancer; thus, I don't have a pressing and urgent need to see photos of Maria.

Next time, I'll look something up.

Nice pic of Ms. Sharapova, and congrats on her win. However, it's no longer enjoyable to actually watch women's tennis on TV, at least with the sound on, because of the mindless new fad/gimmick/affectation of loud, annoying grunting by the women players as they make their shots. It has really diminished the enjoyment of the game.

The grunting/moaning allows the players to control their breathing and focus their concentration when hitting. One of the female players (it may be Schneider) moans like she's in the throes of passion every time she hits. I had the TV on and was doing something else and could have sworn it was a pornie.

Maria's grunt has been measured at 101.2 decibels, louder than a lawnmower.

Exactly.

A tennis “star” who actually wins something besides photo shoots.

Go, Maria !!!

I understand that's the official storyline - I also understand it's BS...

Next thing you know, they’ll star having cheerleaders at golf tournaments and people will paint their faces for polo matches and yachting regattas. My gawd, Muffy. Must we adopt the habits of the common people? Pass the Chardonnay, would you dear?

Sharapova is no longer a teen and now has too much competition on the glamor girl side of the tour. She won this tournament with help from the more attractive Anna Chakvetadze who knocked out Venus Williams. Chakvetadze is a Russian with a Georgian name.

Then there are the Ukrainian Bondarenko sisters and the most attractive of all is the Russian Maria Kirilenko (sporting a Ukrainian name).

Maria shows no patriotism for her homeland in interviews nor patriotism for her adopted land (she has lived in Florida more than half her life). She did make a considerable donation for victims of Beslan but almost seems ashamed that she is from Siberia.

Make that...Maria Sharapova is from Siberia and shows no patriotism...not Maria Kirilenko.
