Trutheriness and Ron Paul (Michelle Malkin) [Ron Paul Says The Darnedest Things!]
Michelle Malkin ^ | May 19, 2007 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 08/05/2007 5:34:39 PM PDT by Lovebloggers

CALLER: I want a complete, impartial, and totally independent investigation of the events of September 11, 2001 . I’m tired of this bogus garbage about terrorism. Ask Michael Meacher about how he feels about this bogus war on terrorism. Can you comment on that please?

HON. DR. RON PAUL: Well, that would be nice to have. Unfortunately, we don’t have that in place. IT WILL BE A LITTLE BIT BETTER NOW WITH THE DEMOCRATS NOW IN CHARGE OF OVERSIGHT. But you know, for top level policy there’s not a whole lot of difference between the two policies so a real investigation isn’t going to happen. But I think we have to keep pushing for it. And like you and others, we see the investigations that have been done so far as more or less cover-up and no real explanation of what went on.

...having seen exactly the lengths to which the Paul-haters will go to bash him...

Only those "conservatives" who put politics above the Constitution.

“So what exactly is wrong with being a libertarian? (Note that that's with a little "l".)

I think Ron Paul confusion answers it best. He just climbed up on the wrong platform and podium to voice his thoughts. From here on the list of my answer would be too long. : - )

All you can do is hurl insults.

No, it is you who hurls insults to distract from my previous posts where I demonstrated that it is you who maliciously spreads lies you already know to be false. Now you want to attack me because I pointed it out and posted proof that you knew this thread is false. As always, trolls must go on the attack to distract casual readers from examining the false basis of their accusations.

And the rest of your sad little crew of Paul-haters were over on that earlier thread as well. They also know this entire thread is false. But they're here to peddle it anyway.

Nice work.

You gotta understand, Maeve, Petronski takes real delight in slamming Paul at every opportunity. It's like a personal mission or something.

But then, all the Paul threads rapidly decay into smear-fests.

Been going on since I joined up. A perennial fight between the supporters of a return to a real Constitutional Republic and those who just want "more power" for "their" side... and damn the consequences.

I've never understood that point of view, but I do see that your observation is correct...and the establishment "big-government" Republicans want us all to know what awful monsters the Democrats are.

I also remember a time when conservatives said things like “I love my country, but I fear my government.” I guess now the “conservative” saying around here is “I believe the government completely when our guys have the presidency”.

I'm guessing that Lon Horiuchi would have served either a Democrat or Republican president with equal dedication and efficiency. But then, that's just a guess.

What podium would that be? Are you trying to say that you think he shouldn’t be a Republican because he doesn’t agree with GWB on foreign policy? What other things must we all be in agreement with GWB on to be a true Republican? Immigration? Campaign finance reform? The farm bill? Are you trying to say that he shouldn’t be a Republican because he doesn’t trust the government investigation into 9/11 so far? When can we resume mistrusting the government? When someone with a “D” next to their name is president?

My idea of libertarian is someone who believes in:

small, unobtrusive, non-oppressive government
low taxes, possibly including no income tax
freedom
liberty
property rights
self-defense rights
not getting involved in Wilsonian, never-ending foreign entanglements (like George Washington warned against)

So which of those big ones is it that you have the biggest problem with?

If he is so pro-life, then why does he usually vote against bills banning abortion?

Because he believes that such laws would be unconstitutional, because the power to regulate abortion properly lies with the states.

I don't know if I agree with that or not, but it's a position I can respect. Returning the power to regulate or even ban abortion to the several states would constitute nothing more or less than the overturning of Roe vs. Wade...a goal that honest conservatives have held dear for years.

Many of them are the same ones who will wail if a Dim wins the White House and they realize that all that power they allowed the feds to accumulate under Bush-era big-government policy will become Hitlery's new arsenal against us and the country.

I wonder what they'll say when Hitlery, following Bill's lead, put our soldiers under the U.N.'s blue helmet and sends them off to die in some new nationbuilding quest that will be another Kosovo. Will they then be glad that they've set the stage for such abuses of our military?

“I think he plays a part in our government that should be filled.”

...and which part would that be? The part where he is adamant that we should pull out of Iraq post haste, or the part where he propagates his “9/11 was a U.S. government conspiracy”?

If Pauls foreign policy does not include selling 20 billion of military hardware to the saudis’, than count me in too.

For someone who is fighting the war on terror, someone please explain how arming one of our friends-enemy with all this combat hardware benefits our country?

May I ask what the difference is in PD51 and PDD67 (the former name) that Clinton signed, and every other President since Kennedy?

I’m not trying to argue or fight, I’d like to know. I’ve read several of them, and they seem to be the same, except for, obviously, updating for the times.

Is it possible (not to mention desirable) to keep an open mind about both the veracity and finality of government reports on subjects with potentially earth-shaking consequences such as these? I think it is. . . . And one does not need to be a "truther" to be skeptical of the official government line. Their record is far from flawless.

By all means keep an open mind and maintain a healthy skepticism of the government.

But too many of the so-called truthers have closed their minds to the possibility that the attacks on the Trade Center and the Pentagon really were carried off by nineteen hijackers using box cutters. The truthers cannot imagine that any plan so simple could have succeeded. So they concoct elaborate and improbable conspiracy theories to explain what must have happened.

Sometimes, the simplest explanation really is the best one.

If he is so pro-life, then why does he usually vote against bills banning abortion?

He only voted against two abortion bills - one on transporting minors to get an abortion & the other one was federal crime to a fetus. These would have expanded federal authority on what should be a state issue.
