Rogue Shiite militia fighters said to be armed and trained by Iran were responsible for nearly three-quarters of attacks that killed or wounded Americans in Baghdad last month, the No. 2 US commander in Iraq said Sunday.
Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno said factions that have broken away from radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army were believed responsible for most of the attacks. He said military successes against al-Qaida had left a void that was being filled by the rogue militiamen. He also blamed Iran for stepping up support for the Shiite fighters in an attempt to influence opinions in Washington ahead of a pivotal progress report on Iraq next month.
"We knew this was coming, but there's been a shift," Odierno told The Associated Press in an interview.
Are there any other kind?
Rogue? They fulfill the orders of their masters in Tehran and Qom.
Fortunately for the mullahs, they have a “Get out of aerial bombing and ground invasion” card.
If Iranians are found supporting terrorism in Iraq they should be executed once convicted. Charge them with murder, treason, insurrection or whatever it takes.
My understanding is that most of the foreign terrorists in Iraq are Saudi that crossed the boarder from Syria and that Iran is providing them with training and equipment.
Matter of factly we should (and are legally allowed to) shoot any captured terrorist as a non-uniformed spy... whether Saudi, Iranian, Syrian or Iraqi,
“My understanding is that most of the foreign terrorists in Iraq are Saudi”
The administration never gives a straight answer on who they are. I suspect because many of them are former Iraqi Army and Baathist security forces.
The Saudis and Syrians are funnelling Sunni Arab (Al-Qaeda) terrorists into Iraq. Iran is arming and training Shia “militias”. There are reports on some Iranian assistance to Sunni Al-Qaeda cells, however the bulk of Iranian support goes to the Shia miltias.
Nontheless both the Shia militias and Sunni Al-Qaeda are our enemies.
He did not provide a total number of militia attacks. But he said 73 percent of the attacks that wounded or killed U.S. troops last month in Baghdad were launched by Shiite militiamen, nearly double the figure six months earlier.

Odierno said Iran has sharply increased its support for the fighters ahead of a September report to Congress on progress in Iraq, leading to the surge in rogue militia action.

“We knew this was coming, but there’s been a shift,” Odierno told The Associated Press in an interview after touring a mainly Shiite area of southeastern Baghdad. “Because of the effect we’ve had on al-Qaida in Iraq and the success against them and the Sunni insurgency, it’s now shifted.”
...
Despite progress against al-Qaida in Iraq, Odierno reiterated the U.S. concern that insurgents linked to the group would try to stage an attention-grabbing attack ahead of the September report.
“I think they want to try to influence that,” he said. “We have to stop them from trying to conduct some large attack here over the next 30-45 days.”

There, now it makes sense.
These are the fighters that should just “disappear” after they are done being interrogated. After all, the dems insist that it is a civil war being waged in Iraq, so who would miss iranians?
War is the remedy our enemies have chosen, and I say give them all they want.-William Tecumseh Sherman
Thanks for the link to the WaPo article. There's far more information in it.
A call to the Islamic people from their leader has been make to all muslims everywhere to seek out and kill the infidels where they find them - I suspect muslims from everywhere in the Mid Est are represented plus the Baathist regime.
The politicians do not want to face that fact.
We should send a spear right into the heart of that pit of snakes IN TEHRAN.
Why fall for the trap of fighting Iran in Syria, Lebanon, or Iraq?
Cut the heads off the snakes in their Tehran dens.
The political and military relationship between Lincoln, Grant and Sherman during the American Civil War is one of the most important in the history of humankind. What they did together should strike fear in the hearts of every imperialist, be they Islamist or otherwise. Make no mistake, they set a bold precedent and left a transparent paper trail to prove it. They showed us that the free mind combined with the certitude of righteousness will do what is necessary to sustain peace and domestic tranquility for all God's children. The question isn't if Americans will unite to fulfill their legacy, but when. Would we even know it when it happens? There are many who may disagree but I sincerely believe we Americans are living Lincoln's, Grant's and Sherman's legacy in 2007 without having to pay anywhere near the costs they did in 1864.
“If Iranians are found supporting terrorism in Iraq they should be executed once convicted”
You don’t need to wait for a trial - armed combatants cuaght with weapons and out of uniform have no “rights”. You can take them directly to firing squad. Or not take them at all.
I'm not as optimistic as you are. The RATS have taken the head in the sand approach for political expediency, not unlike McClellan amassing the largest army and not using it.
We are in an epic battle between modernity and barbarism. We will either civilize the barbarians or we will have to fall back to the Americas and the second position seems to be the popular position.
That’s exactly what the Dims would suggest: DefinE the cOnflict as a criminal matter, to be dealt with by the courts, rather than a military matter, requiring a miltary response. That’s EXACTLY the approach the Clintonistas took in the 90s, and look where it got us.
