The War in West Philadelphia (More Die of GSW in the US than in Iraq)
Washington Post ^ | 5 August 2007 | John P. Prior

Posted on 08/05/2007 11:43:52 AM PDT by shrinkermd

A good article written by a trauma surgeon comparing his Iraq experience with that of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Besides this there is this:

"...More young men are killed each day on the streets of America than on the worst days of carnage and loss in Iraq. There is a war at home raging every day, filling our trauma centers with so many wounded children that it sometimes makes Baghdad seem like a quiet city in Iowa.

"...Unlike the Iraq conflict, this war is not on the front pages of The Post or on CNN. You have heard of the Washington area sniper shootings and the massacre at Virginia Tech. I am sure you have not heard about the "Lex Street massacre," in which 10 people ages 15 to 56 were lined up and shot, execution-style, in the winter of 2000. Seven were killed, three critically injured.

"...You haven't heard about this tragedy because it happened to inner-city poor people in a crack house in Philadelphia. Imagine, for a moment, if this had occurred in a suburban shopping mall or if a Marine unit in Iraq had been involved. There would be shock, outrage, 24-hour news coverage, Senate hearings and a new color of ribbon to wear. That double standard, that triage of compassion and empathy, is why the war on the streets continues unabated.

Case in point: (1)More young, male Minnesotans died of GSW in a small area of Minneapolis (North Mpls) than soldiers from the entire state; (2)The Minneapolis Star and Tribune only lately has been referring to perpetrators by race and age; (3)Many, if not most, of those dead are either from Indiana, Chicago, Detroit or have mothers from those areas.

Of course, it also has nothing to do with those same North Philly denizens adhering to the ridiculous "Stop Snitchin'" campaign.

One of the reasons this crap keeps happening is no one has the testicular fortitude to actually help gt these scumbags of the streets.

We don’t need more gun control; we need gang control. That’s what the reference to “inner city” means. Gangs.

I lived in Center City, Philly, near the Art Museum in 1969-70. Gunshots every night back then. Never got used to it.
There were places where I wouldn’t stop the car at a street light or red light. You “knew” if you did you wouldn’t be starting up again, and this was in the middle of the afternoon!!! Nighttime I didn’t even wanna think about!

Membership in a gang is and has the same effect as being a member of a terrorist cell. They are domestic terrorists who should be hunted down unmercifully and eliminated.

What happened to midnight basketball? I thought it was supposed to stop this?

What we need is free libraries, public education, museums, low cost public housing, that will stop.....
Oh.
Yeah.
Um?
Gun control, that’s the ticket!

Classic example of LIEberals who want it both ways.

The war in Iraq is the most horrible tragedy to befall America except maybe the 2nd Amendment or Global Warming or AIDS or name-the-topic-de-jour.

At the end of the day, it is just more emotional, subjective nitwittery.

Best regards,

Pull our troops out of Philly. The War on Gang Violence is lost, it's a quagmire, Bush's Fault... We need to redeploy our forces.

Bla-bla-bla...

I know that, and you know that, and any rational person knows that, but the MSM and the RATS will always use any crime story to propagandize for more gun control.
