The trade off was most likely the fact that they werem’t going home for their August vacation without sending a bill to the President that he could sign. He was clear on that. It took way too long but it seems the President has finally realized that his best option is to play hardball and he is good at it when he does it.

The DUmmies are in total meltdown. You mean more so than usual right?

I cant think of one single reason why they would or should. But 183 of them did. Reason #1..First and foremost, They are true, hard core Trial Lawyers.

“Wow. The Democrats did the right thing. Maybe they actually do have an instinct for self-preservation.”
What this demonstrates is that the dem opposition to the plan was not principled. They were only against it b/c it was President Bush’s plan. They would run the risk of failing to detect another (perhaps major) terrorist attack on Americans in order to score political points against our President.
Suddenly they agree to pass it b/c their (rediculous) 4-6 week break could be delayed. If these people had an ounce of principal beyond their own self interest they would have stayed and fought it out.

My guess..if you surveyed Rats,,you would find that they still believe the congress opposed this bill and was blocking the Pres.
The press will downplay this and still continue to talk like Bush and Cheney are out to violate everyone’s civil rights.

Good win for the conservatives and the President!
It proves that the conservative position on Nation Security is a winning one ALWAYS, even in a DUmmy Congress.
The biggest mystery of all is why in the hell hasn't the GOP learned that they need to speak with one LOUD and OUTRAGED voice, schedule press conferences and refuse to let the DBM/MSM ignore them? They should harp on this vote until the next election! The GOP should take out ads and run them immediately on the insanity of the Dems.
They should throw down collective gauntlets decrying the 183 democrats that voted NO on this bill and announce that the majority of them will be defeated for their dangerous and reckless attempts to protect terrorists. I want every Bubba and Bubbette to know what the hell is going on with these idiots and the only way to make it happen is for the GOP to throw some never ending temper tantrums to get the attention of the general public.

I’m glad you pointed this out. I was really watching Hunter and this p*sses me off. I’m not sure if this is apathy or just bad decision making, but he’s going nowhere and he’s putting forth NO effort to be a good candidate. It even more upsets me about Tancredo. It’s not immigration - I guess Tancredo really is a one trick pony.

Wow. The Democrats did the right thing.
Not by and large, they didn't. Just enough of them had the stones to care about America.
My moonbat Congresscritter (Che-Porter) voted no on this bill. She is **SO** going down.

Isn’t it amazing what can get done when you threaten to cancel the kiddie’s summer vacation?
It looks like the only thing the President asked for that he didn’t get was to make this permanent. In 6 months when this comes up again, maybe he can threaten the DIMs with eliminating desserts in the congressional cafeteria.

Thanks for the link. I see that, once again, Walter Jones of NC has voted with Nancy Pelosi. Interestingly enough, I was talking today to the man who is running against him in the Republican primary, Joe McLaughlin. He is an Onslow County Commissioner and is always the one “rocking the boat” and siding with the citizens of the county when the rest of the board wants to do something that most of us would not like.
One of my good friends (also a Republican) and I were at the pool today and we saw him swim by. My friend mentioned that she doesn’t think that he has much of a chance against Walter, but I told her not to be so sure. He heard us talking about the war and came over to talk to us.
He gave us some info about his campaign which is going very well, both locally and in the support he is getting in D.C. from the Republican leadership. He is very knowledgeable and told my friend chapter and verse about the votes that Mr. Jones has made which are in direct opposition to most of his constituents. Our district includes four military bases and is the home of MANY career military retirees. Joe is very pro-military and his bumper sticker even includes the phrase "Support Our Troops." He is also very fiscally conservative and very strong on the immigration issue. If you want to know more about Joe or would like to offer a few dollars or an encouraging word, his website is http://www.joeforcongress.com/.
